    Re: Be/O2 broadband

Im thinking of switching to Be or 02 too and am gonna ask a n00b question because I couldn't find it on the Be website. If i change to Be Broadband and it takes them 2-4 weeks to connect me to the new line at the local exchange, will i still be connected to my current connection in the mean time?

yes, if you have adsl ie internet through your phone line it will continue till your cutoff date with them or until they switch it over at the exchange.

Cool, I may look into them then. I notice that they have a 3 months written notice policy for cancelling though, so I'll probably wait until I move house

I go quite heavy on them (Be) sometimes, and they haven't moaned yet.

Some months are really quiet (<10gb) some are really busy (>200gb), although the latter more rarely. (Note: this is a combined total for downloads and uploads.)

    I don't know what'll happen under the "auspices" of O2 - I have a feeling things won't get better, but we'll see.

(Yes, I do have a T-Mobile contract, not O2. Yes, I did used to have an o2 contract, which was promptly cancelled. & no, they may not still be owned/run by BT, but...)

    Re: Be/O2 broadband

Ive been with many different ISP's, inc Freedom2surf.net, wanadoo(before it was bought out by orange), Orange, Be24 and then finally O2. as a online gamer Im looking for the fastest conenction and the best stable connection. before upgrading to adsl2 my line was stable but speeds were crap. Having had internet since 56k dial up and always tried to keep up with the fastest connection available to me. Wanadoo was great till I went to F2S.net, which was brill till adsl2 came out and they didnt support it, so I went to orange (I have 2 contracts, 1 orange and 1 o2) Orange was the worst ISP I have ever had. Be24 was one of the fastest but the connection was very bad and would die after 2 hours, sometimes for 5 -10minutes, for the casual user thats nothing, but when your in a match COD or CSS etc every second counts. Their Customer services and tech support was really really bad, so since the o2 launch and takeover I decided to give Be a second chance but with o2, and I cannot complain at all, first thing I did was let them know how bad the line was, within 1 month 2 engineers had been out and the connection is now fixed, I have never ad any dropouts now and I get a server side sync of 21mbs average/ 22mbs, my modem/router sync average is 19mbs.
    Fastest recorded test;
average upload is syncing over 2Mbs

only downside I can think of is the filters they give are cheap generic filters or could be speedtouch unbranded as they have nothing printed on them...

PS check my sig, as I cant post link's
line transfer/activation is done within 10days, so some will have it up and running in 7 or less days

    btw enjoy

Appreciate that. My point is that when big companies "consume" smaller companies, gradually, the "smaller company" (that was) is stream-lined to be more like the big company, meaning a lot of the individual-cutomer feeling punters get, the competitive nature and the general good feeling goes out of the window.

Give you an example. Be currently has a 24-hour helpline, albeit on 0870 (although there are ways around 0870/0845). I am ALWAYS impressed with the level of service I get, even at 2 in the morning. (Hey, that's the time. Should I give 'em a call? Better not...)

I would not be suprised if come a year from now, when you call "Be", you can only get through from 9am to 5pm, and then to someone who actually works for o2.

... but I'd love for them to prove me wrong.

(Realises he's just ranted.) Sorry. Hot button, that one.

Interesting, on O2 it's a 24/7 free (0800) call & afaik it's handled by Be's call staff (not that we've needed it yet).

Just switched from Pipex (arghhh!) to O2. O2 have been great, and at £12.50 they are half the price of Pipex. With your dad's mobile contract, 8Mb is just £7.50, so it's a no-brainer decision really.

My Pipex line died on the day of switchover at 3:00 p.m. I was connected to O2 by 5:00 p.m., so a couple of hours outage in total. From ordering to switchover was about 10 days.

I'm not sure. I always dialled on an 0870 number... I think.

I'm trying to think when I last called them.

I've just checked this page, and it's not 0870 but 0845. Sorry friends, I'm not being v. helpful.

There's also an 0808 number (as you both say), and a standard number (0207 4795000).

SO I WAS WRONG IN EVERY SENSE ON THAT ONE.

(My point was that Be's "service" might go downhill as they (or o2) get larger, that's all.)

    Re: Be/O2 broadband

that may indeed be the case. but there hasnt been any signs of that happening yet. and the initial flood of signups has passed now, so it should be just a steady stream of new people that they can handle relatively easily.

Yeah it's wise to check the companies page before saynoto0870 as it's fairly redundant when they only list their 0808.
