Question How many emails addresses can you send one email to via BT in one go before....

How many emails addresses can you send one email to via BT in one go before they consider it spam and stop it sending?

Anyone know the actual figure for this, I've been searching in vain, I'm not a spammer, just trying to advise someone who may want to send the occasional newsletter out.
In the internets, no one can hear you sarcasm.

Erm what do you mean send to BT?. Since when will BT stop it?. its the reciepients mail servers that you need to worry about.

If you are a non known user to my system and you send to me with more than 10 reciepients listed i black list you.

BT will not allow you to send 10000's of emails from one account at one time.... I don't know how many they allow.

Re: How many emails addresses can you send one email to via BT in one go before....

If he is relaying via BT, BT may consider it SPAM if there are more than a certain number.

However Spammers are quite clever - in a recent doh moment I accidentally configured my mail server as an open realy fir a few hours. After fixing the problem (a misconfguration) and analysing the log, all the spam was sent in 'bundles' of no more than about 20 from each individual IP address, spread over a period of time.

It was only when the log was filtered that the pattern became clear, and my guess is that the sending hosts were all infected with a bot. (Much grovelling to my ISP was required - fortunately before they noticed and sent me a snottygram)

What really made me sit up was the speed at which the vulnerability was exploited - and the rate at which the spam was flowing - about 60/minute. A salutary lesson - and all because of a typo in a config file.

You wouldn't ever send 10000 e-mails at one time tho, as Peter alludes to above you'd send it bcc'd to 20 users per e-mail approx. so 500 e-mails for 10000 recipients.

It looks as tho BT is the ISP, note the brackets I've added to the first quote

With regards to TiG's policy, would a BCC not get around that?

If you sent a bcc e-mail to 20 e-mails here as part of same e-mail, nope it wouldn't. It would all depend on the anti spam you are using tho.

Wouldn't it be better to set up an actual mailing list? there are loads of services to do this, I hvae the ability through my domain hosting package.

I don't know if BT do it, but Freeserve used to capture *all* mail over SMTP and route it via *their* servers, regardless of what you wanted to use.
    Very annoying.

Re: How many emails addresses can you send one email to via BT in one go before....

To give you a rough idea, via Pipex I sent about 400ish before the system clamped down. At the time we were experimenting with ways of getting a newsletter out and used MS Word's mail-merge feature to get the e-mails out to people.

If you have enough people for it to be worth doing, take a look at Listbox, the pricing is fairly good atm as they bill in US $.
