    Virgin Doing A Good Job!

Okay well I thought I'd post saying I've just received some excellent service from VirginMedia.

Phoned them up on Monday to tell them my internet was really slow (speed tests showing 7.5Mb DL and 0.001 Mb UL!). Virgin were showing packets being lost to my modem and so they sent an engineer out.

The engineer arrived today, swapped my modem out and hey presto I'm running at:

So hats off to Virgin I say!

What package are you paying for? And what usage?

I'm currently putting friends off Virgin due to capping, would be interested to hear positive comments.

Re: Virgin Doing A Good Job!

I'm on the broadband L, TV medium & phone package.

So my broadband is 10Mb (of which you can see I do get very close to the advertised speed) - the traffic shaping will throttle my speed to 25% if I download more than 1.5GB during 4pm - 9pm

Are you happy with that? If I had your speed I'd be throttled constantly - must be all those legit Linux ISO's I download

I'm not a big down loader to be honest, so I would say yes. Anything I do download I tend to leave it going over night.

Re: Virgin Doing A Good Job!

Any thread where Virgin are getting a thumbs up is worth a look hehe!

@WhiteGiant The coverage is so patchy with Virgin, its more an exchange/UBR lottery than anything else. Down here (not so sunny today, Torbay) I never had issues with speed, even at peak times had my full 10Mb/512Kb on the L package. At the same time I had and still have plenty of friends elsewhere cursing Virgin and their over-subscribed UBR's (even heard a few comments about speeds in this area going downhill recently). Am on 02 now anyway as I couldnt live with the STM, pays ya money, takes ya choice!

I'm impressed by VM's service lately. Download speed has been as high as advertised and steady. I even checked the modem signal, which has improved for some reason - maybe a few reports have been made in my area leading to upgrades or something.

Maybe all those people 'fleeing' Virgin have freed the network up for the rest of us! (I have to say since I had my Virgin line installed in February, I've always had a consistently good service).

When I lived with some friends in Cardiff we always noticed massive speed increases around this time as all the students went home!

Im all praise for VM at the moment.
First they give my family broadband (this was big as there credit rating is BADDDDDDDDD)
Engineer was only 30 mins installing everything.
Speeds have been fine and only gone offline once because of VM.
When my brother was DDoS attacked (LONG Story) VM instantly reconnected after a 5 minute call.

I despise Virgin Media with a passion, i find their customer service team arrogant, incompetent (india & UK) and unhelpful, i find the throttling a pain and their engineers disinterested in what they do. Had they not been the cheapest in this area (not much of a choice ) id leave them in a heartbeat!

Before people start thinking of me having the wrong approach when it comes to contacting them look at the praise iv given t-mobile, scan, logitech and corsair. All outstanding companies when it comes to customer support!

I do agree actually. When I first came to the UK we got Virgin Boardband. They were quite incompetent, particularly because we purchased the ADSL service. I was glad to see the back of them, and now we have Be*, which provides much better service. But who knows, maybe their cable service is much better!

Re: Virgin Doing A Good Job!

Personally, I don't find the technical helpline bad at all - knew what I was talking about, fast, efficient and had an engineer round the next day
MONS7AR's brother got DDoS'd by someone on Xbox live (he asked me what was happening ) - there are actually paid services I found on the net following being told - you pay someone however much to DDoS someone to knock them off XBL, if they are winning/hosting etc but the attack usually doesn't last long - this guy was just unlucky. The things some people do to win a game!!!

Re: Virgin Doing A Good Job!

Ive been a Virgin Media user for 2 years now, starting on there 20MB service moving to there 50mb service and back again.

I've always had the most fantastic speeds, always above advertised.

Had an engineer out twice, both times did his job v.well. (Talked to them on the newsgroup (the proper techies on that))

Had one problem where i had to call customer service as i was charged £5 extra. The indian on the line had no grasp of English and was only a nuisance.

Emailed the Managing Director, had a full refund, 2 months free and they said they were going to personally investigate the man i talked too.

Also, i download well over 20GB a day. I never get throttled - i dont know why, i used to but not anymore :S

EDIT - Also the only company that can provide over 3mb/s in my area.
