Anyone else noticed VM are poo?

Well ive been throttled... AGAIN! And i was only downloading an image for Windows 7 (my disk broke and original has been deleted) and i managed to download 1.3gb so far and now im throttled and getting a speed of.... 24KB/s can you believe it? Its very fast indeed.

Last time i checked their traffic management was 3gb between 10 and 3, 3-4 is not checked and 4-9 is 1.5gb, i get throttled for downloading after midnight!. Anyone else noticed?
edit: Also, i have rang them a few times and they say they throttle it during night time aswell (i questioned him loads!) and that its the way it is, he said to upgrade my BB to 20mb(got 10mb) obviously to get more money from us, they wont do anything and am i right in thinking this is, illegal? Throttling without stating in the t&C etc. SHould i contact someone?

Yup im planning on getting rid of them, moving in about 6months so cant get sky yet as we would need to pay them extra or something when we move.

My ADSL connection is "half" the speed of what my Virgin one was. Yet on average, it's significantly faster .

Can't say I'm a big fan of Virgin Media, but at least for me they've always stuck to the traffic management rules they have on their web site for my connection.

Just goes to show, all this maximum speed cobblers is just that, total cobblers.

Theres at least 3 other significant factors involved

1) the ISP throttling things

2) the ISP having insufficient bandwidth

3) the download location not being able to serve content fast enough

The first option does not appear to apply to my ISP (Be*).

The second option does not appear to apply to my ISP (Be*).

The third option is beyond my ISPs control (Be*).

In conclusion, get Be* (or O2).

If you happen, as a "classic" cable user, to live in an area with some other high bandwidth users, your connection will be horrific.
By "classic" cable, I mean the stuff that shares the cable with others, like the old 10Base2, BNC coax type, networking. I dont know what problems Virgins fibreoptic networks have.

I noticed virgin media were rubbish for a whole year at uni, now won't touch them with a barge pole. Think Broadband is a good site giving an overview of providers and which ones are good/bad and package prices

You as a user can change it, if you're prepared to move, but that results in downtime from the internets.

If I can get BT to do a deal I will be getting the BT line back in and going to BE 24mb ADSL2 which is also cheaper than the 20MB virgin line.

Good man! Just remember if you have a cella-mi-phone from O2 you can get pretty much the same service (in all but name) from O2 for cheaper. Of course, even through this applies to me (I has an iPhone), I still get Be* because I do not pay for the broadband, my parents do.

I am quite happy with the TMobile Flext 35 contract and G1 mobile for now I pay £29.50 a month for the contract and they let me spend £200 worth of calls and texts a month on the phone

Only thing putting me off the move is BT wanting £145 to reconnect me and I ain't paying that.

Grey, maybe worth going with sky as they tend to offer free installation as i know some people who have been quoted stupid prices from bt(like your £145) and sky offer it for free.

I had the 2Mb package and got throttled to about 1.5Mb so im not going to complain, in addition i hit nealry 30Mb speeds when were on the 20Mb package and i only download after the policed times so its an epic win for me. The fact you was getting 24KB/s easily suggests there are other factors involved - to me at least.
