My connection is fine now, but all through last week the connection was miserable - unrealiable and when it finally connects, the download speeds were like 56k.

We`ll see what happends in the morning, if all else fails and pipex dont un-throttle me then i`ll get them to cancel me dew to tech reasons.

jaggy, you might struggle with the cancellation as Pipex will say that it was a BT fault and therefore not their fault (could have happened with any ISP).

Ask the BT engineer tomorrow if any changes by Pipex in the exchange could have caused this issue - would be interesting to hear his reply.

Well maybe after you got your line fixed and went through the 'training thingy' then it was fixed too low . If you watch the speed for a couple of weeks and it is roughly the same then you could always ask your provider to get you reset i.e. that will mean that the 'training thingy' will start all over again but there will probabaly be no guarantee that it will fix any higher but worth a try.

merdat, good idea I'll see how I get on over the next few weeks. I've also read that if you completely disconnect for over an hour that can also re-trigger a training session.
I just don't want to play with my connection at the moment after having such trouble a few weeks ago!

    Ok, here`s a update.

Engineer was here at 8.30 this morning and his first words were,* bugger it, i`ll put you a new line from the pole to your house*. he did it , tested , no change. so he toddled off to the exchange and swapped me onto a 'E' line { lost me there again lol} came back, up the post he went hooked a wire up then back down to his van with his lappy and it test`ed a hell of a lot better, Came in and did same test and everything was 100% better.

So all in all it took all these D lines G lines back to a new D line then onto a upgraded E line and reset it to 3meg. The line can run 4.6meg but he said he set it to 3 meg so it would sort it self out to around 1.8 - 2.6 meg. so let`s see in a week or so if it`s all fixed.

As for *changes by Pipex in the exchange could have caused this issue*. He said i`m not the first chap on pipex to ask that question, as far as he knew, pipex had`nt done or requested any changes, but that dont mean they have`nt.

After all the D,G,E line stuff i`m so confused but hopefully in a week or 2 the retraining bit will stable out better than it was.

    Just a quick update:

After many weeks of crappy service in the evening hours my service has returned to it's full speed!
Here is a graph of a test I did tonight (5 mins ago):
    http://www.dslzoneuk.net/speedtest/s....php?id=441377
(I'm syncing at 5856 so that's not too bad).

It equates to about 600 Kilobytes/second rather than 20-50 Kilobytes/second which I was getting before.

I've not changed anything or ask Pipex to do anything so who knows!

If you do a search on the web for sandvine routing equipment they make some sort of ftp throttling equipment used by some isp's although they aren't claiming who they are and the isp's aren't admitting to it. The equipment searches for heavy users and unfriendly nodes ie (kazaa, morpheus) then strangles them almost to a standstill.
I have a problem with pipex my speed seems to be extremely variable during the daylight hours and fairly consistent between 1am- 10am some reasonable download speeds those hours but it starts dropping from 10am and by 4pm it is almost dead on downloads but the connection test still gives around 3-4 mbps

in short pipex service is rubbish

I was having connection issues and ping problems a few days ago. I would suddenly ping high in CS to certain servers, my guess was that they were doing something internally/at my exchange, as this problem happened to people on NTL. It appears to have sorted itself.
    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

For the last one week, my connection was severely messed up - not allowing certain websites to load.

But last night it all fixed itself.

When I am at home, 3-4 days a week, I torrent constantly. All day long. And I get full speed capable at my 1mbps connection - which is 95-120kbps.

Other than the problems over the last one week, I havent had any problems with Pipex service or throttling.
