Unless I'm missing something, these components draw less that 330w?

    Abit NF7-s
    xp athlon 2500
    512MB
    40 GB hard drive
    TI4200

I make a point of only recommending products I've either used or had recommended, if the latter, then it has to be backed up by good reviews etc.

    Theres a 330W seasonic for under £40

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=277839

or a nice looking enermax for just over

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=143946

I guess they are out of your friends price range, but I'd say it was worth spending an extra tenner.

i would never pay that much for psu to power a xp2500. I agree the psu should'nt really be skimped out on but in some circumstances (ie when the computer has very little power such as this one) there is no point.

Like i said before if your gunna spend money on a psu double the money and buy one with some headroom.

They've just bought out an external 2k psu and you're saying 640k should be enough.

Ahhh, I thought, with this being a nerdy conversation that someone might have noticed thats what Bill Gates said about memory or summat, as in 640k of memory!

So far, it has been misinterpreted as wages and the national grid

Thanks guys gone for the fortron. £25 delivered can't go wrong and it keeps my mate happy, he's really stingy when it comes spending money on computer gear.

My brother sold him the computer a couple of months ago but nicked the old power supply from his girlfreind's junked computer which was bought in 2000. I did tell them to buy a new one but now the power suppy did it for them in the end.

He's luckier than my old man his Antec smartpower died the other week and took out his motherboard. He was not a happy bunny lol.
