P5K Deluxe: Upgraded the CPU, now not booting with 2 sticks of RAM!

sadly not, though i did the other day, built a system for a client, though i sent it off (d'oh).
I've sent it back to a mate who just did some work on it adding a gfx waterloop, to take a look at it. Have u ever heard of this before clunk?
It seems so bizzarre, the ram working perfectly one minute, swap the cpu then no more ram. The only thing is there is no bios beeps to indicate a lack of ram. I figure because everything seems to power on thats attached to the board its perhaps safe to rule the board out?

Try reseating the CPU, and while you are there, double check that you havent bent any pins in the CPU socket. That could also give you this odd behaviour.

i see- however once it was seated it did boot initially with just the one stick. Is that the only explanation or would u still go with the ram?

Theres lots of things that it *could* be, but those are the most likely in my opinion.

You say that it started just after you fitted the CPU? Did the board need a bios update for that CPU? (sorry if ive asked this already, got several threads on the go).

The bent pins in the socket is a possibility, so take the CPU out and have a look.

if the case is bent pins, what can be done? i am using bios 0404, which is the latest with the exception of the "beta" bios. I have my suspicions about the ram. I am unsure and headbangingly mental at this stage

It depends how bad they are.

Sometimes they can be straightened with some needle nose pliers, but other times, it means a new board.

we'll i've sent it back to who installed it just gathering a list of possible explanations because right now im doing my nut in, im so fed up of it i've just sent it away since i don't wanna deal with it myself anymore. I pretty much doubt the person who installed it would've caused this issue, although i will bear it in mind. So far i've got faulty ram and dodgy cpu installation. i was wondering if there are any more issues to compete with?

I could speculate about possible causes, but the only real way to find out the cause is to take it apart and have a look, and then test all the bits.
