Re: Woop another new build question!!!

if they did want to play games i would suggest an 8800gs or 9600gt as they are both in the same price range and are still capable of handling todays games

i've seen 8800gs for 70 quid in microdirect and at nearly half the price of a gt makes you wonder if their any good

i know their 192bit (nice odd number) any body know how these cards perform???

I dont love to argue with you at all. Can you not read properly? Vista now move files very quickly with SP1 installed. The networking you seem hooked on has nothing to do with it one way or the other as the fella asking didnt even mention it.
    Can you not understand this?
SP1 is still a manual update, not an auto update.
    WRONG!!!!!
It IS an auto update. How many more times can you argue a point you have zero experience of (as admitted by yourself).....Jesus, why do you think its not when people that are actually using it know for a fact it is.....and have told you several times during this thread already.

My main rig and laptop have both been auto updated to SP1 so why do you insist carrying on arguing the toss when you obviously dont even know?

Didnt i read somewhere you are an IT person at work. (asking for a pay rise irrc). If this is the case then how come you are so short on fact.

I just cannot understand how you can continue to argue a point when you are 110% wrong.

Re: Woop another new build question!!!

its not on auto update as it does not auto update onto your system it needs to be manualy updated. He wants to be able to move large files around (read the first post). I have SP1 on my laptop and it had to be installed, it DID NOT AUTO UPDATE. Microsoft will be distributing it via auto update soon but not yet.

On the auto update info it is you who is 110% wrong. As for my pay rise that has nothing to do with but as it seems your an IT pro I'll let you carry on from here.

You may both be right as to your own respective systems.

Windows Vista Service Pack 1 is not available for installation from Windows Update and is not offered by Automatic Updates

Now mabee we can get this thread back on track and recomend TGA some hardware?

100% agree. So I will ask a few questions and forget the "other" discussion

TGA what kind of files are we talking about?
How are the large files to be moved around?
    How many are there?
Will this be a stand alone file server, media server etc?
Do you want to be able to game?
Will it do any CPU intensive tasks?
How many users will it "serve"?

I think thats it for now.

The fact is that all those reasons need you to have done something unusual. IOW all normal Vista installations will update to SP1 automatically.

Your pathetic attempts to justify your indefensible position are, simply, indefensible.

(BTW Im not a IT person in my day job. The pay isnt good enough )
Did you actually read the link Andy posted (thankyou). If not, this is the snippet that you obviously missed and based you misguided claims on:
In mid-April 2008, Microsoft will begin distributing Windows Vista SP1 by using the Automatic Update (AU) system for English, German, French, Spanish, and Japanese. Microsoft will begin distribution of Windows Vista SP1 to a small percentage of Windows Vista users each day and will slowly increase distribution over time.

I have an MSDN account and maybe i was bumped up the list, but the fact remains that auto update is available.

Make your mind up aswell btw.....1 minute you dont have Vista, the next minute you do.
No wonder you know nothing about the updates on it. You cant even decide whether you have Vista or not yet.

Re: Woop another new build question!!!

sorry I can't let this drop. No matter what you say my Vista did not auto update. Not every one will get auto update on SP1 yet read it for your self. Also if you read my post back you will see that I have said I have Vista. This is the second time I have had crossed words with you and your snipping and personal insults are below the belt. I will not let this one drop as I did the last just because he wants to try and push me around. Also didn't you say your system auto updated over 3 weeks ago? Very odd as this was before they issued it to auto update

It actually looks like auto update started on the 23rd of this month. We have two users who auto updated before it was even on auto update! Are you 100% sure it wasn't Windows update you used or did you come back to an updated system? It has been on windows update for a few weeks no but it has not been set for auto update, there really is a difference. Just have a think.

Re: Woop another new build question!!!

You really cannot read can you.
I have an MSDN account so maybe i got it before alot of others. The fact that you are still wrong is another matter. YOu know little about Vista so i can assume you know less about MSDN.

Also, as far a those 2 HHDs go, I decided (after advice,) that i didnt want to sell them to you. I am very glad i didnt now as it was a good transaction i got from someone else. If you need to bring that into it then it shows how shallow your argument is. Lets face it, that is the reason you wish to argue about this. Nothing to do with the fact that you have the wrong information.

I have NOT insulted you. I have merely pointed out that you are wrong. If you take that as an insult then too bad.

I will not read or respond to this thread any longer as you are getting very boring now. This coupled with the fact that you argument has gotten SO thin that you have to cry about the HDD's, its not worth continuing.

Re: Woop another new build question!!!

How can i be wrong? When I made the statment it was before the 23rd. How can you get it on Auto update before its released, even on MSDN... Auto update. If you want to argue with the facts then thats up to you but Auto Update of SP1 did not start until the 23rd

Microsoft starts Vista SP1 auto delivery

I have to be honest after doing a manual update to SP1 on windows update the networking issues are sorted but i would still use XP for a small sub 10 connection file server. In fact if your not gaming I would use Ubuntu Linux, its fantastic!

    PS

I will make sure I do actually spec up a full system with price etc for the OP once the questions I asked above are answered.

Its impossible to read your pointless and incorrect drivel when you are on my ignore list.
That way its more fun to know im am really annoying you and not have to read your theories that loads of people are getting auto updates on Vista and you arent. (Is it a hacked copy)
