Question antec 300 or cooler master 690?

Well i need a new case as mines annoying me with loud fans etc, i was looking at getting the 300 as its only £40 but does any1 know if the cooling performance is near that of the 900? or is the cm 690 better?. I think i could stretch to £50 for the cm690 if its better, any1 know what ones bigger on the inside? id like the upgrade ability for say sli or something in the future and love having space in the case . All opinions welcomed.

    Thanks.

The CM690 is plenty roomy for most builds, quite solid though fan vibrations may still resonate slightly without rubber grommets.

Re: antec 300 or cooler master 690?

the 300 seems just like the 900 possibly smaller with only a 14cm fan ontop instead of teh 20cm on the 900. seems to have all the other fans in the same place. Can't see why it would perform any different from the 900 apart from the fans etc.

Re: antec 300 or cooler master 690?

I've had a quick look at the only review of the Antec 300 that's out atm
Antec Three Hundred Gaming Case Review
It looks like a not bad for a budget case, it's not as large as the 900 and lacks the drive cages.
Apart from the bottom psu and a 140mm top fan it looks like a pritty basic budget case.
    It looks large enough inside

The CM690 is a very nice case, looks good, plenty of room, good tool free stuff
Only down side is you cannot fit IDE hard drives in it's drive caddy system, so the only way you can put IDE hard drives in it is to get some adaptor rails and fit them into the 5.25" bays
So if you've not got any IDE hard drives it's a great case, if you still have IDE drives look for something else.

The Sharkoon rebel 12 would be a nother one to look at, not hideiously expensive and very large inside
Computer hardware and software at amazing prices, available online from Scan Computers UK
Although you will need to get fans for it so the price will go up if you don't have any.

Re: antec 300 or cooler master 690?

Just done a similar post to this but the CM690 is pretty much the best case I have come across for for £50.

Super quiet, great cable management, very good cooling, looks nice and has decent tool free drive management. I'd certainly take it over the antec 300 or 900 for that matter.

I'd certainly buy one if I needed a new case right now

Re: antec 300 or cooler master 690?

mike would u say the cooling is near the antec 900 ? i remember it being good but £50 was out of my budget but seems to be ok now. I dont use ide drives anymore so that isnt an issue.

Also a totally no related question but i get BSOD when i have my sata dvd drive or hard drive pluged into the first and second port, fine when 1 is either in 1,3,4 etc.

Re: antec 300 or cooler master 690?

I had pretty limited contact with it but with very similar components it was seemingly out performing my mates Silversone TJ-09. The only area the TJ-09 is slightly better is the gfx card cooling but thats not to take anything away from teh CM 690 which was doing as well as any other normal case.

I'd almost go for for one over the P182 which is my favourite case. The only thing that I'm not sure is the HDD noise, I'm not sure the sliders were doing that great a job but that might due to the spinpoint. Since I don't have one am I correct in thinking you need to enable something in the bios to make these very quiet?

As for your blue screen, i'm not sure. Something to do with the raid controller perhaps?

you're talking about AAM on the spinpoints. you can use a tool to adjust that.

Re: antec 300 or cooler master 690?

I see, well they were making a bit of noise (not loads but noticeable), more than I would expect for a drive with their reputation but this was the early stages of the build so it might just have needed tuning

Looks really nice actually and it all feels nicely put together except those buttons which do let it down a little but they work which I guess is all you can ask of them lol

shame that the slots dont work for dual slot cards , guess ill wait for a review on the 300 but if its a poor one then cm 690 got my vote .

the side panels on the cm690 are very thin , the fans that fit on the side panel are very noisy . i had to install all seven fans to keep my system cool , very poor if you ask me (but nobody will )

Re: antec 300 or cooler master 690?

    What is your system?

Quite interesting, the one I saw was q6600 with the xigmatec cooler very much like the TRUE with an 8800GTS and a couple of HDD's.

Seemed to be cooled very well, can't quote temps but my mate could push the q6600 harder in that than in his case

My mate did mention the side panel fan being noise and so he wasn't using it. Surely you could change the fan and mount it better though?

Re: antec 300 or cooler master 690?

does the cm 690 have a top fan similar to the antec 900/300? because im told thats very good for cooling. Nearly got enough money for the cm 690 anyways so might order this week.
Could some1 be so kind and take a photo of the cm 690 (if they have one) as id like to see how big the interior really is, is the distance from the hard drives to the back inside more then 26cm?
