Not really worth doing mine until I've got Kali under water, and that's not going to happen for a while yet. Unless anyone particularly wants to know how a HT Pentium 4 or an Athlon XP gets on, that is...?

Yeah, and all the SIMD units worked as well, unlike my modest laptop. Atom really isn't cut out for any non-trivial computing at all. Browsing, light office work, consuming media, that's about it. Although there was USB I/O overhead, and I was using a FAT32 filesystem instead of ext4 on the external drive, which might have impacted the result, but it shouldn't have by a considerable degree.

At least you wont be last with that Atom taking the much coveted 'runs like a dog' trophy.

    I assume that's at me

OK, I'll try to find time over the weekend to see how a 3.2GHz s478 Pentium 4 with HT manages with the task (assuming it doesn't catch fire ). I won't bother with the Athlon as this is meant to be a multithreaded test, so it doesn't qualify

I tried to run this on my new server at work, but I can't download the files onto it, so that will have to wait until I've had time to download the files elsewhere and copy them across. Results coming up next week some time

Just saw that Bit-tech thinks that a 3.7GHZ Phenom II X4 is SLOWER in HandBrake than a Core i3 2100. I wonder if their test involved using the first pass only?? It wouldn't surprise me as these are the very "experts" which recommended an £80 mATX motherboard with two RAM slots!!

Two RAM slots is perfect for anyone not doing professional scale video editing. If you are, then you wouldn't be looking at an mATX board.

According to Bit-LOL the Phenom II 980 (3.7GHz) scores lower than an i3-2100. Now, going off our own charts we can see that my psuedo X4 (@3.3GHz no less) bests the i3-2100, yet BT have the 3.7GHz X4 being beaten.

    Hmmmmmm.

Re: Hexus HandBrake charts - who has the greatest multi-threaded POWER!!??

I know they aggregate the scores compared to their 'stock' system, but us Hexites have seemingly blew the credibility of that out of the water. Someone could look at that and think the i3-2100 is a multi threading beast, when in fact it isn't when you look at our chart.

    It's a bit sad, really.
