I'm going to have to try get my overclock higher, this isn't good enough
I hope to have a push-pull configuration for the winter so I may be able to get above 4Ghz all winter. Unfortunately Akasa Viper & Apache fans are PWM, they don't work with my Fan Controller so won't be upgrading my fans just yet.
I managed to get a forum member on OcUK to run the tests on an FX8150 he bought.

Just built a new PC for my Dad so I've had a chance to play around with an A6-3650:
Big Buck Bunny: 19.048393 fps
Tron: 19.713640 fps
Splice: 13.407324 fps

Found this thread via OCUK via google. One thing I've wanted for ages is a decent comparison between various CPUs for video encoding. Encoding/transcoding is probably the only reason for upgrading a CPU in the best part of a decade. Gaming and rendering 3D animation can probably be added to that list. Tomshardware used to be my only source of comparisons but I really hate the lack of consistency between various test, making it hard to compare results from a few years ago to current results. Not to mention the lack of transparency of sources, settings etc. making it hard to replicate the tests yourself.
I was wondering how well modern CPUs fare against mine, an ancient AMD 64 X2 3800+. Given that it's around 6 years old I would expect a nice improvement, around 400%. So I finally upgraded to the latest handbrake and encoded the Tron trailer with the settings and managed 5.32 fps. The top result for a stock processor is about 6 times the speed and the maximum is 11times.
My only question is over the file itself. I never encode HD to MVK, its usually SD AVI to MP4 for my ipod nano. Would someone be willing to test a small SD file on a newish processor for comparisons sake?
The other odd thing is some of the CPU's at the bottom are newer than mine and give almost the same results. One processor was 3 years newer than mine and almost identical in results. I would have expected at least 50% higher, but more like 100%
Not overclocked eitherCode:# Windows GUI 0.9.5 2011010300 # Running: Microsoft Windows NT 6.1.7600.0 # CPU: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 3800+ # Ram: 1023 MB # Screen: 1680x1050 [16:54:22] work: average encoding speed for job is 5.325870 fps

Welcome to Hexus.
If you had any files you would like to test (freely available videos only, of course) you could provide a link and I think CAT would be happy to add them to the list. MKV vs MP4 shouldn't make any difference to performance or quality - it's the container and doesn't affect the content.
Newer != faster; the CPUs that score below yours are laptop and/or low-power chips.
