Interesting that the OCUK Phenom II X6 @ 4.0 is noticeably faster than Shakerist's at the same speed. Ram speed/latency, CPU-NB frequency difference maybe?

It does seem a strange thing to be concerned about. Surely the more information the better? Isn't the aim to find out what works and how well it works? I would like to see the results at various clock speeds too, especially for CPU's that haven't be tested at stock speeds.

Yeah it's probably due to exact OC settings, I'd expect RAM speed is making the difference.

Wow, a 3960X at 5 GHz. Good effort - that is seriously fast! Wonder how stable that thing is for 24/7 running?

Re: Hexus HandBrake charts - who has the greatest multi-threaded POWER!!??

I was running load tests today to see how well my new (old) rig runs passively, thought I'd might as well run handbrake on it... Behold, the fastest VIA CPU soon to be on the Hexus handbrake chart!

I'll report back in two days...

Re: Hexus HandBrake charts - who has the greatest multi-threaded POWER!!??

Update on the test I mentioned. Finding a suitable video file was tricky, there are good files out there but I'm not sure they'll be around for long which'll make it tricky for others to compare. I settled on the Clerks 2 QT trailer from clerks2.com/trailer/clerks2trailer.mov

I used the same setting as the main test but used the ipod preset. I got 81.22 fps which is pretty pleasing. I'd like to see some results from the top end of the table (and the VIA)

Thanks for the results, sorry for the lack of speed in updating the table. How did the run go DDY??

I will get the table updated in the next day or so.

I had to abandon the run I'm afraid, I had the rig running bare on my desk and the resonance caused by the HDD drove me up the wall so I pulled the plug before I went to bed.

Not to worry though, once I get my coursework out the way I'll pull the rig out again but set it to run outside my bedroom.

I'll also fire up my 800MHz Coppermine Celery and see how well that does

If I get a chance this week Im going to try taking these tests for a spin on the microserver... see how a 1.3ghz dual core manages
Sadly I haven got anything slower to test it on!

Also going to try and persuade a friend of mine to try it on his epic video editing workstation we built - twin quad core xeons with 48gb ram

Athlon II Neo N36L (Microserver) is already up.

It doesn't look like we have a stock 2600k up, would it be possible for anyone to save their overclock profile and go back to stock to try it? I think it's quite an important result to have.

I ran that on my Microserver with ECC RAM (NB: CAT I think you should include this fact), would be interesting to have non-ECC RAM up there too.

I think it would be less of a difference than between different RAM speeds, but I don't think either make a huge difference to Handbrake performance.

Sorry my bad, I hadnt noticed the N36L down the bottom of the charts
What about laptop chips? Have got an intel t5800 I could run on...

How come you bought a 2700k over a 2600k? Are the 2700k dies better binned allowing higher overclocks or something?

Well the initial batch of 2700k's were all good for at least 5ghz from what I gather, where as most 2600k's top out around 4.6 at sensible volts... Intel basically binned the best 2600k's and upped the stock multi.

Inadvertently I actually ended up with both - I bought myself a 2600k a few days before the 2700k launched (not realising how close to retail release they actually were), and when I was kicking myself for not waiting longer the wife bought me one as a birthday present!

Still have the 2600k sat on my desk in its box - that did 4.5ghz straight out of the box just using the 'auto oc' feature on my Maximus, and I never had the chance to try higher

My 2700k will do 5.2ghz prime stable, but needs 1.41v to do so - temps easily hit 75+ degrees though, and I wasnt happy running that much daily voltage :/
