Re: Hexus HandBrake charts - who has the greatest multi-threaded POWER!!??

Thanks. I'm not really concerned about adding it to the chart, I'm only really interested in the one or two tests from the better performing chips. I'll have to find a nice SD video that's freely available

Yes I realise some of them are mobile chips but I hadn't realised that included Core 2 Duo SU9400. I was under the impression that C2D were desktop chips and mobile chips were Pentium Mxxxxx.

I found some benchmarks on Tomshardware sandybridge comparison just now (can't link yet). It's strange how the 2600k is so much faster but that's not reflected in the tests here. I wonder what could be the reason. That test uses 0.94 but that doesn't seem to explain it.

You can get Pentium, Core 2 and the Core i3/5/7 series in desktop and mobile variants. A letter in the model number usually indicates which it is, for example Core 2 Duo E8400 and T9300 are desktop and mobile parts, respectively. With Core i3/5/7 it's usually a letter M at the end for mobile chips.

Possibly cherry-picked video files and/or overclocked results? Three separate videos are used here to try to eliminate the former.

Not sure what you mean. The 2600 is the second fastest chip on this thread, behind the six core gulftown. In toms (http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/d....264,2421.html) it's exactly the same - the 2600 is second only to the six core gulftowns.

Despite the overclocking, the results are quite comparable IMHO - the only outliers are the really amazing overclocks, for example Butuz's crazy 4.4ghz on a phenom X6.

Re: Hexus HandBrake charts - who has the greatest multi-threaded POWER!!??

The improved performance of Sandy Bridge over the previous generation Intel CPUs is a combination of improved IPC and higher clockspeeds. Sandy Bridge also has support for newer extensions which also helps but AFAIK not all applications support them(the same with Bulldozer). However, when the CPUs are at the same clockspeeds, in many applications like HandBrake the current Core i7 quad cores CPUs are not a massive improvement over the previous quad core Core i7 and Phenom II X6 CPUs. If you look at the chart the Sandy Bridge Core i7 quad core CPUs are around 10% clock for clock faster than the previous generation Core i7 quad cores with HT and the Phenom II X6.

    Edit!!

I have some scores for another FX8150 and even a SB-E six core CPU from OcUK which I will add.

Guess I'm out of the top 20 now

I think I'll make some adjustments to my cooling this winter and leave my room windows wide open one day to clock my CPU to it's absolute limit. Might get back into the top 20 before you find more benchmarks from newer processors.

I'd like to try running a WC loop with the rad placed outdoors in the winter. I mean I know it's not very practical but interesting nonetheless.

Re: Hexus HandBrake charts - who has the greatest multi-threaded POWER!!??

The only reason I am adding OcUK scores as some people were willing to bench FX8150 and SB-E CPUs using the files I suggested. At least we can get an idea of how good newer CPUs are ATM.

    Edit!!

    Post 2 now updated.

I hope to add these scores too:

Another chap started using the same test setting I suggested in another thread and this one(referring to that chap).

I have tried but the problem is you cannot mention Hexus on OcUK due to the affiliation with Scan and the letters are starred out(Hexus also does this with one or two websites too).

One of the chaps has tried looking for the website too and had no luck until I mentioned, ahem,Nexus. I am surprised the post was not deleted.

Re: Hexus HandBrake charts - who has the greatest multi-threaded POWER!!??

So is this no longer a hexus community thing then? That's a shame - you might as well just go and add any benchmarks you can find on the net for the same videos. Asking who has the greatest multi-threaded power in the world is kind of boring to me (there are other forums dedicated to OCing/benchmarking that would be more appropriate).

If you absolutely have to have them (though I don't think you do), then stick them at the bottom in a separate appendix/for reference section, that way we can still have our nice community table and banter.

Re: Hexus HandBrake charts - who has the greatest multi-threaded POWER!!??

I think it's acceptable considering they're benchmarks we don't yet have for interesting chips, as long as they're cited. It's a pity the i7 isn't stock though...

Re: Hexus HandBrake charts - who has the greatest multi-threaded POWER!!??

The OcUK scores don't have rankings.

I don't see why adding scores for new CPUs from there is a problem TBH, as it useful for members here on Hexus to have an inkling how these CPUs look in HandBrake. If it means segregating the scores then I will do that if it confuses things a bit. I just thought adding the scores for the FX8150 and SB-E would be useful.

Plus I might get one or two of the lot over there to join Hexus too(not all of them are bad)!

Re: Hexus HandBrake charts - who has the greatest multi-threaded POWER!!??

Tribalism on the internet, it's quite interesting how these in-group/out-group mentalities form and get perpetuated.

Despite this I would prefer to include results from OcUK running the same tests we do so our chart has more variety. I like to be able to compare the performance of my machine to the latest hardware available.

By the way would it be acceptable to put more than 1 result in for my CPU? They would be at different frequencies. I am currently running at 3.5Ghz but can go to 4Ghz stable enough to run the test and possibly higher with some enhancements.

Or do you think it would be best to have a different chart for that? Perhaps 1 result per member so only their best goes into the "ranked" chart and another to compare CPU performance with greater variety.

A friend of mine claimed to have done something like that, he said he ran 2 very long tubes into a container situated outside his room. Ever since he mentioned that I've thought of buying a cheap water cooling block, lots of tubing and a pump to do the same. I won't be doing that though, too impractical.
