Its all about the extra boot time programs you have installed.
Mine takes around 60sec from cold boot to login and for the disks to stop seaking data. In that time it loads around 460Mb into system ram and 250Mb into the page file..Carzy amount of data!!
EDIT: thats on a year old version of windows

31 seconds. Hi everone btw.
I personally belive its a complete WASTE of energy to leave components on all the time, unless of course something worthwile is running like UD or find-a-drug.Originally Posted by Famished
Anyway my laptop takes under a minute to load, I like to keep my system nice and clean of all the junk.
It's pointless leaving systems on 24/7 I have no need to do it, so why should I and as Timmy said, it's a big waste of energy!
R.
ive just deleted the prefetch folder as suggested, and it made a HUGE difference to the windowsXP loading screen... the blue bar passes about 2 or 3 times and its done!
WOW! I wish I hadn't asked the question now! My startup seems real slow in comparison to some of these....
What is this about the prefetch?? I have never heard of this?! Do I have this or is it just a windows xp thing? I have win2000.

I never time it but I don't even see the windows XP screen at the beginning now.
I get the Nvidia Raid showing my array, then the Silicon Image SR3114 raid array and then it goes black and within 15 seconds the login menu has appeared.
Saying that the PC is on for days at a time and is only rebooted when playing and tweaking the system settings
30 seconds here
Heh I've got one for you, how long does it take for yor pc to shut down? Mine used to be instant but now unfortunately its crept up to about 30 seconds grr.
I would say about 20sec if that?
Ill check when i get home.
edit: Mines startup time
