I to am also quite interested in the conroe cpus when i next upgrade. No idea on motherboard prices, but some websites have put up rough estimates from the intel road maps.

    http://www.dailytech.com/article.aspx?newsid=2547

they seem pretty reasonably priced for their performance even with the low clock speeds.

Always gone AMD mainly for better value. Very tempted to go towards Conroe especially as AM2 will cost just as much to upgrade if not more. No hurry yet as I am pleased as punch with the Opteron.

Depends on AMDs solution when i upgrade.
My opty @ 2.7 does everything i want, quickly and quietly.
When i upgrade again (probably around 12 months away), ill see whats on offer from both camps.

Then again, i said this last time, and i ended up selling my current equipment and buying a top end A64 system, purely for the Epenis++ factor.
    I hate my inner geek

Well I have been hanging on for a while, and I will wait a bit longer. At the moment it looks like it will be Conroe - but I await some detailed and technically competant CPU and Mobo reviews (e.g. HEXUS and Custom PC who both seem honest and true and tell it like it is, not how the Manufacturers would like them to) before making the final decision.

I don't upgrade often, so have to make it count when I do as it has to last for some time.
Try to make each and every day the best it can be.

I was planning on upgrading to an FX-62 this summer, as I've changed my desktop every June for the last few years, although with it's excessive cost and the fact that the conroe is about to appear I have to wait; argh!!! And the worst thing; the 3GHz XE won't be around until Q3 Waiting, waiting, waiting...

.. and I thought I kept my PII 400 for long
