Nvidia cards are certainly compatible, just SLI will not work on an intel mobo (especially if it only has 1 slot ) at this moment. You would have to wait for some compatible nforce mobos for that.

What talk of NVidia not being compatible? NVidia cards are compatible with all makes of motherboard and CPU.

seen as im getting a 7950 gx2 i wont need sli yet, so the mobo doesnt need to support it. does everyone agree then that i'll be better off with an e6300 than an am2 4600+ ?

    it would be this cpu:

Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 S775, 1.86Ghz, 1066Mhz FSB, Conroe Core, 2M Cache OEM (w/o Heat Sink Fan)

if everyone agrees that this is the best option then i need to choose mobo and ram, and i will stick with the 7950 if everyone thinks thats ok. i'll also need a heatsink/fan

edit: alternative i could just stick with the am2 for now and upgrade to conroe later when theres more mobo availability and e6600 is available

Sorry for the confusion, that's a result of me complaining that the current 975x boards aren't sli ready so I'm reserved over whether or not to wait for one that is.

Ben, that sounds fine to me. And yes the conroe is MUCH better than the amd. :>

Hehe well I personally don't think SLI is worth it unless you're into spending a LOT of money on graphics cards. The nice thing about the gx2 card is it has all the SLI stuff embedded and doesn't require an SLI motherboard.

tbh. there is no point to sli, unless you cant run the game you want at full res full settings with the one card, and you must have it maxed at huge res, because like with the 7800 gtx, why spend another 300 on another when you could get a 7900 gtx which is arguably just as god as two 7800 gtxs. just buy one top end card then replace it with the updated model
coz its beter for the cash

aye, very true rainbow, but i think i'd like to have an sli board so that in a years time i can just chuck in another card, whereas crossfire is very particular about the card version.

i know its tempting, but in a years time sell your card use the cash you were going to use for another and you have the new top of the range card, me = ftw?

    Graphic card- Mmmmm tasty!

CPU N MB- Conroe mate. No amd!!!

Case- Wavemaster aint that good at cooling a high end system. An akasa eclipse or a P180 (as you stated) will cool much better. Give me a PM if you decide on it and I can help you get the best out of it!

    TFT- NICE!

Guys, read the thread. His current question is what mobo and ram should he get for a Conroe E6300

    :|

Best bet for mobo is a P5WDH

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=434311

    As for the ram, get any good quality ddr2 400 modules. I'm planning on getting these;

    G.Skill 2GB DDR2 ZX PC2-6400 (2x1GB) CAS4 Dual Channel Kit (F2-6400PHU2-2GBZX) (MY-011-GS)

    http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatal...ll_Memory.html

james.robinson, hows your conroe E6300 working out for you? Impressed? what did you run before?

would it be ok to stick with the ram above and change the mobo ?

what do u guys think to my choice of TFT, the viewsonic is 100 cheaper but ive had that NEC recommended

ow and not to forget that conroe will need a fan/heatsink

You can change what ever you like, so long as it still works. The Asus P5W DH is probably the best for the job at the moment and that ram would work fine.

No idea on tft's, they give me headaches. crt ftw.

The Eclipse is far from an ugly case, agreed out of the box it can appear a little bland. However, have you seen some of the mods floating around ?

You can seriously pimp this case
