He's saying that unless you get a good quality psu then it's likey to fry the hardware you connect it to. And that one isn't a quality psu imo.

I would stick with Asus or Tagan.

If you going for the 6300 then I would get a Gigabyte 965P DS4 or DS3. These motherboards are awesome teamed up with Allendales, and cheaper than the Asus. They will allow you to overclock to over 3ghz with ease.

I dont know about how easy it will be to fit that huge graphics card onto the motherboard though.

Ive seen good reviews of powersupplies from that manufacturer so I dont think there is anything to worry about there.

If you don't adress the issue and get a decent quality psu then it will most likely fry your set up and you'll have to buy another one. Easily worth investing an extra 20 quid for the assurance that you will not kill your pc. If this is your first build Ben, and I think that it is, go for a good quality psu or you will most probably kill everything in your brand new pc.

    argh

most people are saying the psu will be fine and to take comments like those with a pinch of salt, but u assure me i will burn my whole new rig ? ?

ive ordered already based on being told i will be fine with that psu, and ive maxxed out my budget. but then if its gonna fry a grands worth of hardware then i should wait til i can afford a diff psu. i dont see how scan can sell a psu that frys stuff tho, when they are a reputable supplier and many people have said its a decent psu...

I wouldn't be able to justify spending £316 on a non-reputable make PSU.

i would say that the issue here is that saying things like "you will most likely kill everything in your brand new pc" and "i think that it is" is not only condescending and immature, but where is your evidence that this PSU is sub-standard? no retailer is going to consciously sell something that is obviously below-standard, so Ben, the PSU will be fine. If anything does happen, and something breaks you can RMA it, its as simple as that. The RMA process from Scan is very quick, and very easy. Theres always a risk that things will break, but its minimal. Just remember when ur building your pc to wear an anti-static wrist band, and dont build it on the carpet, or wearing a shell suit for that matter.

    Good luck!

    thanks for the reassurance

anti-static wristband where do i get one of those? ive always relied on touchin the metal bit of the case

i am going to build it on my desk but i'll be standing on a carpet. i could build it in my kitchen but its likely to get food on it, probaly more dangerous than static

standing on carpet should be ok tho right?

so long as im not wearing my carpet suit and shell gloves

anti-static bands are available from quite a few places mate, ebay do them for pennies, if you have a local PC shop they prob have them there

at uni they advised us to touch the back of the PSU when it was switched on, apparantly it helps to de-static you

I wouldn't say I was being immature by a long shot, and obviously a PSU would not be sold if it would definately fail. All I'm saying is that Ben's planning on spending 300 quid on a psu which isn't the most reputable make on the market. It's by no means substandard but there are better ones out there. Sure the PSU is "fine", but there are better, and for half the price he's planning on spending. How is that condescending and imature? :/ He asked for my opinion and he got it. I didn't flame somebody for their imature opinion and I sure as hell didn't ask for your opinion on me.
