well, im not sure there is anything actually wrong with the ram, its just that it needs higher voltage to kickstart it, ddr2 is 1.8v by default (jedec standards something or other blah blah). i bought some corsair and if i remember right, it is recommended on the gb website as compatible..that didnt boot either, but the cheapo stuff did...incidentally, the corsair stuff only needs 1.9v as opposed to the 2.2v that the ocz needed. im sure they will sort it with a bios update and/or a revision of the ram.

If the corsair is 1.9V default then at 1.8V it's likely you'd at least get into bios to up the Vdimm

I've just gone into the Bios and over-volted the dim by 0.4V and its started working. The only thing is that you need the cheap ram in order to get into the bios.

However, it does not run stably, as soon as you put stress on, Windows either freezes or blue screens. Using the cheap ram under stress and its fine. The ram is definietly going back, its just taken up so much of my time.

The one thing is that at multitasking, this really makes my Athlon X2 3800 look very weak. Core2Duo is good, just need to find some good ram.

thats what i thought, but it was a no go...possibly because the board was dying, i dunno, but it wouldnt boot at 1.8v, then it died.

have a read back in this thread, the idea of the cheap ram is ONLY to get into the bios to up the vdimm, then power down and swap the good stuff back in, but if if the cheap stuff is working well for you, then great

I've ended up RMA'ing the MB and Memory. Tried the latest Gigabyte bios which still didn't work and then when using the cheap ram and putting the machine to stress playing Hitman Blood Money or Halflife 2, I got some wierd error messages.

Komplett were fine about the memory and Scan were okay about the motherboard. Just ordered a MSI975 Platinum Power Up and Corsair CAS4 DDR 6400 (£30 more expensive than the OCZ).

    Lets see how that goes.
