Hehe maybe...i just like my shuttle though!

I know, but he could just as well do that in a shuttle SN27, with a smaller footprint (and that is much better looking that the sugo), as the adding up of all the components needed in a sugo (ie mobo, psu, case etc) some to only a bit less than the shuttles

Ah well, it's up to him i guess! 8800 would be quality I agree.

If he can get it all into the Shuttle case he likes then go ahead and swap the SUGO out, but hardware wise dave's really hit the spot.

If he can get it into a different case or get a bare bones which has a C2D in then go for it, i dont like the SUGO's looks either but if i either had to go for A) A nice case, good hardware or B) A less attractive case and excellent components that will last much longer. I would pick B hands down.

P.S- Have you overclocked that x800GTO2? Probly not cause its a SFF case

Definately going for a Shuttle, guys, sorry!

A Sugo would defeat the whole point of me getting a SFF

    A Sapphire x1950pro 512 will definately fit into a SN27P2, will it?

The thing that turns me away from a Conroe system is that the SN37P2 (corresponding Intel version of the chassis I like) has no PCI slot.

    Any other ideas welcome, guys!

Free pint will be going soon

I have overclocked it, the shuttle case i have has loads of room for a graphics card and has excellent cooling (7 fans total). GPU runs at about 48 degrees and 540MHz.

I agree about the components, but he's already stated earlier that he wants a smaller system to lug about between uni and home i think? That's exactly why i bought mine. If there's a tiny bit of compromise on performance/expandability i'm willing to take that for the portability as it gets moved so much.

I'm sure the graphics card will fit, what woudl you use the pci slot for by the way?

something else to ponder....check out the other makes of SFFs and see if the have anything that suits you (personally I didn't find any), because they often have some good products.

and to make it a little harder for you...i read that there's an SD39P2 coming out at some point, takes C2D and has one pci-e and one pci and a better chipset than the sd37. would have been ideal but at the minute the isn't really a release date.

The Aspire/Apevia is a very good sff case, as is the sugo which was disliked.

Qpack is just too big, I'm afraid.
I'm going to need something shuttle-sized.

However, I appreciate that in order to get a decent graphics card - e.g. 8800, I'm going to have to save money elsewhere... maybe on the case.

I'm sure the graphics card will fit, what woudl you use the pci slot for by the way?
Sound card if the sound quality isn't top notch (and I have a 7.1 system, so would need to support that well, which I think it should), or failing that I'll put my TV card in.

I read that there's an SD39P2 coming out at some point, takes C2D and has one pci-e and one pci and a better chipset than the sd37.
    Now that's interesting...
Googled it, and the only source that mentions it (Sudhian) says there will be a late January release...
I'm not sure whether or not to believe it though.
    No mention on Shuttles site.

But thinking about it, how much better can I do?

    This is the current system I'm thinking of;

    Shuttle XPC SN27P2 AM2 Barebone System £303.93
    AMD AM2 Athlon64 X2 5000+ Dual Core OEM £185.93
    Sapphire ATI Radeon X1950 Pro 512MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail £152.74
    2 x 1Gb sticks PC5300 Patriot Signature Line RAM £125.00
    Sony AW-G170AB2 18x DVD±RW x12 Ram Dual Layer DVD-Writer - (Black) OEM £19.96

    SHIPPING £18.00

    TOTAL: £787.56

There is room for another 2 sticks of RAM to upgrade, the next CPU up is stupidly expensive, and I can't find a better graphics card that's single slot!

Can anyone else find me a better single slot card? Regardless of cost, for now.

That's almost the same system as i have! except you'll have a better graphics card and i have better ram lol. Can't think of a better single slot card at this point.

As well as that, the 5000+ only has a smaller cache as the 5200+ and the same clock speed, so i don't think there's much difference between them. The FX-whatever is hurrendously expensive and runs at 2.8GHz, which i have my 5000+ at at the moment

Nah, I can't find one by searching, either.
Tim, you'll be able to help me with this.

What little extras do I need to buy with this chassis?

SATA cables/IDE cables/thermal paste/PCI-x power connecter adapter etc? Or does it come with them all?

Comes with all the Sata cables (3), and IDE cable with two attachments, it has thermal paste but i'd probably buy some Arctic Silver stuff (I did, i'm sure it makes a bit of a difference), already has Pci-e power cable in it. do you have a spare internal floppy lying around in an old computer?

Fraid not. Why do you ask?

I have some Antec Silver 5 paste, don't know if it's worth getting Arctic Silver over that.

Ah, the Antec stuff will probably be fine...

An internal floppy drive because you need that to install raid drivers (if you want). hang on, let me go see if you need one to install the serial ATA drivers at windows install (i don't think you need them but i'll look)

I'm pretty sure you don't. I won't be needing RAID, either, just two independant SATA drives.
Neither of them need driver install at windows installation.

i don't think you need one for a non RAID install. *think*. I installed them anyway just because i had on lying around. In fact, i'm almost certain you don't need a floppy drive if you're not using RAID. And besides, one of your mates will have one in their computer, surely?
