you really cant get much more overpowered then these damn paladins
me at level 11 and my mate at level 10 took down 3 level 15 mobs and still had the mana to heal ourselves at the end of it =\ whats goin on there... lay hands is a SICK ability -.- when you have about 10 - 15 mana left, just hit lay hands and you or your mate are on full health again =\

I would much rather have a self res ability.
Also, about overpowered - lets wait for 1.9, but at the moment a paladin <lvl 40 is quite amazing (although having levelled one to 60 I am currently being astonished by my 28 mage, who can kill stuff before it gets anywhere near him!), but a lvl 60 raiding experience for a paladin is currently "not all that" and definately not overpowered.
We are tough to kill and people hate us because fighting us takes so long, but noone stops to think that for a paladin fighting anyone takes that long.

Tough on mirrors, tough on the causes of mirrors.
Ah but if you keep that mana potion handy lay on hands is a god send.
Don't forget you can reduce the cooldown period of LOH with a little talent investment.
It's a question that needs to be asked in each situation;
Lay on hands will keep another alive to help reduce the amount of agro on you but there's the mana cost but if you use it, you give up one of the powers that will save you if you get too low on health yourself.
A self rez power would have to be a minor one to keep things fair so rezzing with a little health and mana during a fight, pvp or rarely be wise

I prefer not to rely on Lay on Hands - my points are better spent elsewhere at the moment. As for using it on other people - a lot of the time the poor sods die before the stupid spell reaches them. Many a time i was on 80% myself laying hands on our priest or tank only to have them die and me get topped up to 100% from 80. Yup dee do.
Self res would be more for wipe recovery or to avoid running from the graveyard after the LOH has failed to heal your buddy and cost all of your mana. At the moment paladins wipe recovery includes needing another paladin to put Divine Intervention on (yes you can do it on priests, but if you have priests still standing its normally not a wipe yet). So thats 5 man places pretty much impossible to use DI in. 10-40 man raids - yes, its possible to use, but EVERYONE has to die in 30 seconds. They don't always do that Whereas shamans can have everyone wipe, fighting to the end, and then they just self res and res the rest.
LOH in pvp - if its a casual one off encounter - yes, i suppose - if its Battlegrounds - you may use it once - but whats the point, it hardly ever makes a difference, unless its Improved LOH with an armor bonus cast on a boss NPC.
I wouldn't get rid of it, "every little helps", but its by no means an "OMFG IMBA" ability.

lol can see where you are comin from what gets me about it tho is that you could have only just enough mana to do it and it still heals anyone ur level (just about) full whiles level 11 its quite handy to have spare in real bad situations but i still pref self bubble and group bubble for heals
IIRC every game i play with paladins (cept diablo) have an instant major healing spell but it always has a very long cooldown.. EQ1 i cant even remember the cooldown time but i know it was damn long same with eq2 same with Wow

As for your experiences with LOH it seems I've had more successful uses. Depending on the type of encounter I get involved in, I don't count on LOH but I plan ahead for it's use.
Might seem a little complex but often it's use requires me to plan to de-agro anything off myself or be in a safe situ in order to switch to concentration aura first. Additionally as our guild are mostly on Ventrillo, I'll announce lay on hands imminent and who's going to get it.
It's saved quite a few team wipes.
Curious about your loss of a team mate and yet LOH still seems to go through as I've always found if that happens I just get failed come up. I could be wrong on that as I've said it rarely comes to that so it's not a situation I've found myself in often.
Divine Intervention? Wouldn't touch it with a barge pole. As often one of the most important members of the team, a power that gives a single heal but renders me dead is of no use to me what so ever.
[Edit] "a power that gives a single heal" = "a power that bubbles for a short while"
You grosly misunderstand divine intervention, my friend. When it works its great. Its just difficult to pull off every time. What it does is place the target into "a bubble" for 30 seconds completely removing it out of combat and off the mobs aggro list. The idea being that you cast it on someone who can resurrect and is in a place which is far enough away from mobs locations not to aggro them again. The second thing about DI is that all of the raid HAS TO DIE IN THE 30 SECONDS or the mobs will reaggro and it will be wasted. The way its normally used is just before everyone is dead one of the remaining pallies casts DI on another pally (lets face it, that far into a wipe all priests are dead, whereas paladins should mostly be still standing) and then all of the others stop trying to avoid death and just die quick. The mobs then go back to their locations (which is why its important to pull). The DI'ed paladin then resurrects everyone. You try again. Its like a soulstone or a shamans self res - but a lot more awkward (it being a paladin skill).
As for LOH backfiring on me - i think its because I have self cast on. But i can't imagine my life without self-cast but can without LOH

Given your explanation that follows it appears I do. For so long I have disregarded this power but I will consider your suggestion and see if I can work it back in.Originally Posted by dkmech
I agree about the priests, in a hard fight you find yourslef watching them, but sometime mid battle you start to worry more about the damage dealers and the priest(s) go down. They seem to accept this as well which is nice
It would need the whole party to understand the power as well meethinks, no point the other pally running just before DI to have a surviving member running towards him with a few adds.
I only have self cast using my blessings so I don't have to remember every 5 mins. For other members I use Benecast which puts a row of buttons under each party member with preset powers applicable to their class for me to click on. When I click on LOH for a specific member, it auto casts it on them without my losing focus of my original target. Quite scary thing is that I couldn't see myself doing without it now
Oh noes indeed, did i get a new weapon
oh yes'ies indeed, went and poked an allaince priest for 2202 with it shortly after in WSG, unbuffed

Also, damn you for getting an epic weapon before me! My luck is the worst ever! On Friday my PC got ****ed, first the monitor stopped working, then when I got that fixed the damn registry was corrupted! Being at uni I didn't have all the stuff I needed to get it fixed, so it took me until today (wednesday) evening to get it fixed. Then I find out that on Monday's MC run TWO epic daggers dropped! (Gutgore Ripper and Core Hound Tooth)
I don't mean to sound cold, or cruel, or vicious, but I am so that's the way it comes out.
u can raid all u want slarys, but ill alwasy be pr0
nah im not assassin specced, those are for poofy dagger rogues im 21/21/9, fully combat+assassin, with a little pvp subtlety thrown in for good measure, goan respec when i have the cash though to probly 21/30 or 30/21, but im in two minds, on one hand i top the DMGmeters on ZG raids and am looked up to by the peeps in the guild for my work, on the other hand i got stone guard this week, which makes me want to PVP more, i had 521 HKs last WEEK, and 565 HKs TODAY! lol id liek to push myself up through a few more ranks in pvp before christmas, so im not sure what to do, with ZG 3 tiems a week and sometiems four, and MC going to be starting on sundays soon, its busy in WoW land
also, got a 750 crit on Sinister Strike unbuffed last night on some mob in EPL

3 a week? Pfft, I can raid every day if I want to!
BTW, 52 days played, that's scary.
