Re: Who's still playing WoW then?

Since that moment has passed, it's pretty much a case of it being capped now at 4k, but if during the transfer you received more than 4k, you will have that. Anyway, it's all moot, because soon enough (hopefully before Cataclysm's release) all JP will be lowered to 4k if you're over it.

Re: Who's still playing WoW then?

Thank you for the JP guidance That now makes perfect sense.

Now getting ready for Cata I'm trying to maximise my rogue as my DPS seems to be lacking a little.

I've read a little about maxxing Hit rating, and via a bit of reforging and gemming I've got my Hit rating to 281, which from what i've read is now capped.

    Character Name : Vapouriser

    Running Combat 3/31/2

    Agility is 1137
    Crit Chance 19.35%
    Haste 5.22%
    Spell Hit 281

I had previously been focusing on Maxxing my crit chance, however I now understand that is of least importance, I think my priority order is now

    Hit Rating
    Expertise
    Haste
    Crit
    AP

(Previosly I was gunning in almost the opposite order!!)

Having recently switched from Daggers to Using a pair of Maces (Tankard of terror with 26 agi enchants x 2)
Are there any obvious changes that I can do - apart from continuing to gear up via JP's and 5 mans?
    To enhance my output?

    Thanks for looking guys

Re: Who's still playing WoW then?

    I'm looking forward to Cataclysm.

However, I have only recently started Burning Crusade and still have Wrath of the Lich King which I havnt touched as of yet!

Recently hit level 65, ditched the Dwarven warrior and created a Dwarven Paladin Retribution character. However when they changed the skill trees last week I respecced as Prot. Makes solo much easier as they have removed some of the ret skills.

What ret skills are you missing?

All the key ret skills are still there, judgements, crusader strike and divine storm (or now templars verdict depending on aoe or not) The ret tree specialization gives you crusaders strike, also get a mana regen ability there too to make that trivial.

Re: Who's still playing WoW then?

I preferred the separate judgements to start, I used the one that stops an enemy from running off quite frequently. I still have Crusader Strike but it doesnt do that much damage, so I use the shield throw then hit with holy storm and sometimes exorcism. I also redone my weapon, I now use single handed mace and shield instead of 2 handed.

Once prot is full will put points into ret again.

Re: Who's still playing WoW then?

    Hi Syd,

I don't know an awful lot about Rogues in particular, but with any melee dps, get hit and expertise to caps as a priority, attack from behind if possible, search some decent WoW forums for specs, glyphs and rotations (Wowhead and EJ spring to mind) and get the best gear possible.

Do a heroic every day if you can, do the weekly every week on Wednesday (more chance to find a group as DPS) and save your JP for T10, get 2 pieces first for the first set bonus, then just get the best increases you can from then on, regardless of if it's T10. A good start would be gloves and shoulders as they are the cheapest at just under 700JP.

Gem each socket for the best stat (agility?) ignoring socket bonuses, unless they are really worth it, like +8 to a good stat or say you need to socket hit and the item has a blue socket as well as a red socket, you can gem hit and agi into that item for the bonus.

Use reforging on items where they have a high number of secondary stats that is lower on the stat priority list than another stat not on the item. Sorry, can't think of a better way to word it. An example would be, you have an item with +crit and +expertise on it. If you are hit capped already, it would be a good idea to reforge the crit into haste, as haste is better per point than crit. If the item already has haste on it, you wouldn't be able to reforge into that stat.

Mastery is not worth it for most specs from what I can see until Cata when mastery is included on items and it really starts to shine.

Bit more generic really, but all of that should help increase your DPS, as I say I don't really know Rogues too well. Hope some of it helps.

When I used to play the elitist jerks forums were great for finding tjis kind of thing. They used to have a very complicated spreadsheet where you could enter your gear and talents etc and it would calculate you dps with all tje different rotations, so you coyld tweak your gear in the spreadsheet to find the best combinations of what is available to you.

It used to be really valuable as it can uncover some excellent combinations, and some prices of gear that are better tjan their item level would suggest.
I don't mean to sound cold, or cruel, or vicious, but I am so that's the way it comes out.

Re: Who's still playing WoW then?

Rogue's have taken a bit of a knock with the last patch. There is a VERY rough spreadsheet over at elitist jerks to tide you over till the expansion hits.

    Some general tips tho:
138 Expertise is the cap for melee attacking from behind (where you should be stood)
446 hit (or 289 with 3/3 precision) will get you poison+special capped

After this Agi is your primary stat. DON'T reforge for mastery as it's kinda poor for rogues at level 80.
The rest depends on if your muti or combat.

Muti hasn't changed much, combat just has an extra ability (revealing strike) thrown into the rotation and otherwise plays very similarly.

Also for combat, try and get your hands on a fast offhand. A 2.6 offhand is far from optimal. There's quite a bit of choice around if you can get in even 5 man ICC instances you should land a nice fast off-hand pretty quickly.

Glyphs for combat should be (I believe):
    Slice n Dice
    Killing Spree
    Sinister Strike

Give an armoury link, i'll take a look at you.

My rogue: Kitteh. I've fixed talents and gems but little else and only had an hour or so on the dummy with it.

For a basic "how to dps" rotation as combat:
    1) Sinister strike for 1/2 combo points.
    2) Slice n Dice
    3) Build up to 5 combo points with sinister strike using 1 revealing strike during the 5 point build up (revealing strike not needed if you will slice n dice).
    4) Slice n dice (this gives u a full duration one)
    5) Build again as per 4
    6) Rupture
    7) Build again as per 4
    8) Refresh slice n dice if under 7ish seconds, refresh rupture if under 5ish seconds otherwise eviscerate
    9) Throw in any cooldowns/use trinkets/engineering bracer enchant except blade flurry, try and line them up with deep (red) insight
    10) repeat from 7

Thats a BIT quick n dirty but it should help
    Basically:
Get slice n dice up asap, keep it up.
Keep rupture running, use revealing strikes to make sure you get the extra damage on it
If you have combo points spare, eviscerate with revealing strike active
Blow cooldowns whenever they are up and you are in moderate or deep insight

Just for the hell of it, here's the enhancement shammy (might be in PVP gear/spec): Brethrenn

With your gear you should definitely be doing more than 1900 dps. My lvl 70 death knight is doing that right now so you must be doing something wrong.

Gear wise you should be farming random heroic dungeons non stop for justice points to get T10 / 264 gear. My friend managed to get his fresh lvl 80 hunter in full T10 / 264 gear in around 2 weeks with a bit of luck from VoA and ICC 25.

You should also be doing VoA10/25 every week and once you get an average item lvl of 232, head to ICC 25.

But in all honesty, there isnt much point getting gear any more considering Cata is just over 1 month away.

Tried my mage today. Good god, mages are ridiculously powerful now. They weren't bad before mind you but woah, they seem completely off the scale now.

Re: Who's still playing WoW then?

Most of the casters at the moment are rather overblown.

Blizz have set things up (the back end number crunching) to make things play right at 85 so we have to put up with mildly broken classes for a few weeks.
Mages were toned down after the initial patch, were pulling 40k arcane explosions etc.

Re: Who's still playing WoW then?

It's unreal how unbalanced lower levels are at the moment.

I started a new Paladin a while back, zoomed through the first 40-45 levels with ease in under 24 playing hours, and that was just questing in Eversong Woods and Ghostlands and then using the LFD tool to run random instances all the way.

At 62 I'm doing about 1.2k when all others are doing 3-500, it's crazy. I know I do a lot of AoE as tanking, but no-one comes near me. Also, I rarely need heals because a 3 Holy Power Word of Glory heals me for about 6-7k so thanks to the overheal I get 4 seconds of invulnerability (nothing does anywhere near enough damage to me to use the 4-5k shield surrounding me from my overheal).

When I was 58 and I joined a group to Strath UD side, the group quickly disbanded as no-one had the key. So I decided to go and try and get it. I ended up solo'ing the whole instance, with relative ease, only dying once when going AFK in what I thought was a quiet spot, lol. I hit 60 in that one instance.

    Overpowered? I think so.
