The problem with AM is it'll reduce the range of your hybrids by 50%. Fine if you use blasters and like to get up close, no good if you prefer to snipe from a distance. I personally use Iridium for sniping, a little bit if a range boost (20%) and hits reasonably hard. Nice balance I think.

Also, Large and Capital weapons can only be used on BS and Capital ships, they're far too large to fit onto Cruisers. My advice would be to train up enough skills to fly a Cruiser and do some missions, go hunting, trading or mining (what ever floats your boat) to earn some money. In the mean time, train up on skills that will help your chosen money making path, i.e. gunnery/missile skills if you want to be a fighter, mining/refining for a miner etc. They will help you make money quicker and then when you have enough to upgrade to a BS you will still have the needed advanced skills to learn the new ones for BS's. For example, if you start off flying a frigate and choose to be a fighter flying caldari ships with hybrid turrets for the racial bonus, train up spaceship command to level 5 (10% bonus to agility of ALL ships, needed for lots of future skills), frigs to level 5 (bonus to flying frigs, needed for tech 2 frigs), electronics and engineering and mechanics to level 5 (for 25% bonus to CPU and 25% bonus to powergrid and 25% bonus to struct hp with ALL ships, needed for tech 2 ships), train up gunnery to level 5 (10% bonus to fire speed of ALL turret weapons), small hybrid to level 5 (25% bonus to small hybrid dmg, needed for tech 2 small hybrids), controlled bursts, motion prediction, rapid firing, sharpshooter, surgical strike, trajectory analysis and weapon upgrades are all very good basic skills to have for gunnery, they will be used by ALL turrets you use and will make them much more powerful and accurate than others, and with tech 2 weapons you will own! Most of these basic skills are needed for the cruiser level skills (medium hybrids etc) plus all the ship bonuses will be used on every ship you own so they are really important to give you that edge. Once you're happy with the skills you have then you can move on to a Cruiser or tech 2 frig and do the same.

Am now considering switching to a Minnie ship to give it a go as I've come across them in PvP before and they are pretty good! Though I'll probably just train an alt up for the moment to get to Assault Ships and some tier II eq, and use my other chars to make money if I need it.

Can't wait to get my graphics card back and start flying around again killing things!

    Thanks for that Allen,

Might be the fact I have like 4mil SP in mining and only level 1 trained in things like controlled bursts, motion prediction, rapid firing, sharpshooter, surgical strike, trajectory analysis and weapon upgrades.

Looking at what they do, this may be why I am having so many issues I guess. Suppricing how much of a difference they make. Will train all those after I get hull upgrades V in 4 days. (Damn you can tell I am a miner, lol)

Definately get them generic gunnery skills upto 4, apart from learning skills those are the most important in the game imo.

And masterflash if your NPC'ing then the rupture is the all together better choice, better tank, more firepower and greater flexibility. I just wuv the stabber cause everyone says its crap but it packs a fair punch and is able to outrun a few frigs.

Tempted to go for a Domi instead? I have quite a few drone skills so might be better?

I have the skills for Tech 2 Armour Repairers and Active Hardners, so with the setup you just posted, which is similar to mine i was planning. Provided I get level 4 on all the generic gunnery skills like [DW]Cougho said. Is it possible to solo level 4 missions?

Did a Level 4 before with a mate in a Raven, and lets just say it took 2 hours, my Mega was on fire, and we had to head back twice for supplys and repairs. . Good fun, and I made a lot of Isk, from rewards and bountys though.

The first thing to do is to select your race. IMO I think Caldari is the easist to start up with as they have some nice frigates and can make good use of missiles, this means you have a nice and "easy" entry into the game.

After creating a pretty picture for your char and entering it's name, select "Custom" from the list to enable you to adjust your initial skills and attributes and try to get your races frigate skill up to level 3 and improve your memory and intellect as much as possible (memory and intellect affect your training of other skills) with the free points you have to play with.

Do the tutorial! It may seem boring and long, but it's worth it. Not only is it very informative, but you will get quite a bit of money from following it. After completing the tutorial and the tutorial missions I think I had over 250k ISK which is more than enough to get a decent Frigate like the Merlin or Kestral and still have some money left to buy some new weapons.

Research everything before you click the purchase button. Read the official forums (Ships and Modules section mainly) to get a good idea of what is good for doing things. Also, make sure you research your components for your ship and make sure you can use them (skill wise) and fit them to your ship (Powergrid and CPU wise). There's nothing worse than buying a nice expensive item, flying several systems to collect it then finding out you can't use it yet!

If you are going to be a fighter (i.e. doing kill missions and rat hunting) do lots of mission with your level 1 Agent that you're introduced to. As soon as your reputation with that faction is high enough, move onto a level 2 Agent. They will be a bit harder, but by then you should be able to afford some really nice equipment and mods for your ship(s).

Skills. Make sure that you learn short skill whilst you're playing (i.e. a few hours) and then change to a longer skill before downtime, bedtime, worktime, schooltime etc. This will make sure that you never waste time by not learning a skill of some sort. Also, once you get a few basic skills to use a nice Frig with some good weapons and mods, start to learn learning skills as these will greatly improve the learning speed of all other skills. Start off with Learning (2% bonus to all attributes per level) and get it to level 5 ASAP. Then get the Analytical Mind (+1 int per level) and Instant Recall (+1 memory per level) skills up to 5 as well. Once they're done, get the advanced skills for memory and intelect, Eidetic Memory (+1 memory per level) and Logic (+1 int per level) up to about level 4. Also, Spacial Awareness and Clarity are good for Perception which improves Gunnery skills.

Upgrade your clone ASAP. It's cheap and will save your skill points if you die (which is quite unlikely as NPC's won't pod you so you can only be killed by other players, keep in "safe" space and you "should" be ok).

I think that's about it for now. You can figure the rest out yourself, and there's SO much more to learn. I've been playing on and off for about 2 years and I still have much to learn!

should be enough to solo the lvl4's. Domi is probably the 2nd best npc'er in the game, it can fit an awesome tank and can choose its damage type with its drones. Of course the biggest factor in eve is pilot skill, not your sp's. Keeping up transversal against poorly tracking targets is essential, if necessary weave your way into range with a zig zag pattern.

An example of how important pilot skill is this: when i was first in the game i was doing lvl2 missions in my omen (with a setup off the eve-o forums, so a good setup) and i was doing ok but i came up against the damsel in distress mission and got webbed and by time i realised how fast my tank was dying it was too late and my omen couldnt warp in time. Then the same scenario with my alt, kestrel 400k sp's (laugh please) and with just a shield booster for a tank i managed to solo the mission without warping out, just by zig-zagging my way to the targets, keeping up transversal and staying aligned to objects in case the going got rough.

Wow, thats a useful tip. See now I guess thats quite obvius, but until someone tells me like that, I would not have bothered woring about transversal things. What I might do is search the eve forums for actual piloting tips rather than skill, and ship setups, as from what you ahve said it makes a difference.

But... Hehe, did manage to fit 2 LARII on a Domi and have them both on forever with 60% resists. Uber tanking 4 teh win! (And transversal knowing piloting skill zigzag moves)
Hi: 2 Heavy Nosferatu I, Drone Link Augmentor, Small Tractor Beam I, 2 Dual 250mm Railgun I
Med: 5 F-b10 Nominal Capacitor Regenerator (Until I can afford tech II)
Lo: 2 Type-D Power Core Modification: Capacitor Power Relay, 2 Large Armor Repairer II, 3 Mission Specific Armor Hardeners II
Specific Drones for Mission as nimbu said, never thought of that before either.

See, I have much to learn After 6 months of playing I know almost all the stats of every ship and module, but I still no little about the actual piloting. I am going to find an amazing guide on how to actually pilot ships in eve now I think. (Heads to Google)

Hehe, I want a Dom with 8 lo slots too.

Think you read that wrong though. Sorry should have worded it better, or laid it out better? It is only 7 lo slots by the way? 2 PCR, 2 LARII, 3 Hardners.

The "Type-D Power Core Modification: Capacitor Power Relay" is the name of one item, kinda long name actually. But it does look like "Type-D Power Core Modification" and "Capacitor Power Relay" at a glance.

Sorry me being picky perhaps. Hopefully the tier three battleships will have 8 lo slots though. Maybe a large drone bay, and uber bonuses, huge cpu and pg, and 8 hi slots and 6 meds, perhaps as good as the dom, but with the looks of the mega. Mmmm. (I can dream )

Lol your right i didnt see the comma, consider myself firmly bashed!

As for tier 3? I'll stick to my command ship for now, .

I dont believe that tier 3 will be the be all and end all, ie huge amounts of slots, its gonna be specific setups and uses again.

We all know caldari are getting a rail platform and i think gallente might be the same too. (Considering dom is a drone carrier, and the thron is blaster boat.

    Amarr who knows??

Mimi, im thinking a proper auto cannon ship (which will be nasty).

Nimbu, what is the name of your corp?

At the mo, I doubt I'll leave mine as I have a Megathron on loan from the corp hanger and we have in total enough to hopefully buy a T3 BS BPO when they are launched. Plus, by then we should also have enough minerals to actually make one or two meaning loads of money for us all!

But saying that, if anyone needs a hand, gimme a shout. Should be getting new compy parts next week (including a capable graphics card) so will be playing more, rather than just messing about in stations sorting training and ship setups!
