    Blue screen problems... :(

    Hi Guys,

Was going to give you a call, but thought i'd try this first.

I was using the computer yesterday, and whilst using Excel, the computer restarted itself, no warning, just restarted. But it loaded up alright so i thought nothing of it. Then a few hours later I got the dreaded Blue Screen. So i restarted and this time it loads to the "would you like to load windows in safe mode screen" and then tries to load windows, but after a few seconds with the microsoft windows logo on the screen, the scroll bar beneath it freezes and a blue screen flashes up faster than i am able to read it and the computer restarts.

What can I do? How can this be fixed?

    Ed.

To start i'd make sure you haven't got a loose connection, open her up and check all cables.

yeah you're right, sorry, my brain is all over the place.

PSU i have no idea, I think it is a 550 or 580 watt, modular supply, but i cant see a make or model number on it anywhere.

    Re: Blue screen problems... :(

Have you checked all connections, especially the hard drive .

Then in the advanced options menu (F8) try selecting 'last known good configuration'.

    Re: Blue screen problems... :(

Sorry guys, here we go, i've found the original build list:

    ASUS P5W64WSPRO I975
    Intel E6700
    Corsair TwinX 2GB DDR2 8500
    580W TAGAN MODULAR T580-U15

I also have 3 storage hard drives arranged in a RAID 5, and a systems drive which has windows and all programs installed on it. Hope this helps.

    Re: Blue screen problems... :(

Have you installed any new hardware recently ? or any new software ?

I find that if you can't boot into Windows XP safe mode because of crashes or Blue Screens Of Death, you likely either have a hardware error or one or more essential system files is corrupted or missing. If you can boot into Windows XP safe mode, but get constant or frequent BSOD's when running XP normally, you have a software or device driver problem.

    Re: Blue screen problems... :(

I havnt installed any new hardware, and havnt installed new software in perhaps a month, nothing recent anyway.

(my system drive is also partitioned, might be important)

when i try and run safe mode, a fast scrolled list of maybe 30 messages, all similar but the last one says:

    multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\windows\System32\Drivers\Mup.sys

with a message at the bottom saying:

"press EXC to cancel loading SPTD"

    then blue, then reset.

    Re: Blue screen problems... :(

If you have installed any hardware recently then remove it and try booting. If not then you will have to try and a repair install :-
1 - Boot from the Windows XP installation CD
2 - Choose the 'press enter to set up Windows XP now' option
3 - Press F8 to skip through the EULA
4 - Now press R to begin a repair install

Your system will go through the entire XP install process, but will not attempt to replace any of your existing data. It will simply reinstall the system files and redetect all hardware. Once the process has completed, your computer will reboot.

When you perform a repair install, you will need to visit the Windows Update Site and reload any patches and Service Packs that you previously applied to your system, as the repair install removes them.

    Re: Blue screen problems... :(

I pressed R, and the recovery console is up. with a message saying type EXIT to quit and restart the computer.

Is the recovery console doing anything? or do i have to type EXIT and restart? I dont understand if that is what i should do, or an escape option if i want it to stop.

    (yes i have daemon tools)
