Re: What should I notice after SP1?

I couldnt get the stand-alone pack to work, it gave some error at the end, windows update worked, but I wanted to keep the setup for later.

Anyways, did a fresh vista with sp1 on a friends PC, worked much better than mine, the clean install was quite smooth, file copying was faster alright....

I had the slow copy bug. I installed SP1 and it's completely cured.

I can transfer from my NSLU2 to my Vista machine at what I consider to be a normal speed. When copying from a USB stick to HDD it would take ages just to calculate the time remaining; that's now done in seconds and the copying takes next to no time at all.

UAC seems less militant too, only requiring one or two clicks instead of the usual four.

    I'm happy.

Re: What should I notice after SP1?

I've noticed Vista seems a little faster and more responsive on my rig. Then again, I had to reformat just to get SP1 to bloody install. :-P

By the way, from what I understand it'll only appear in Windows Update for you if you don't have any of the problematic drivers. And it likely won't appear until all your drivers are up to date (it did it to me last night after the reformat; I installed everything but video drivers before it would come up, but when it did, it installed fast).

Re: What should I notice after SP1?

I dont know, I have UAC disabled first thing! I have always updated regularly, day before yesterday, I had 2 new updates (none of them sp1) I updated them, then after reboot I had one new update, it was SP1 , it said something like 65.8Mb - 455Mb, I ran it, took 5 mins, asked for a reboot, took another 20 minutes, restarted, 2 mins, restarted again and wallaa, SP1 installed.....

I did download the standalone pack seperately from microsoft, it wouldnt run, it says, agree etc etc, next, then it starts extracting files, at the end it says, some error stopped, check link, on the link it says standard things, reboot, install latest drivers, check for errors...I still have it though, sp1...fine...

Re: What should I notice after SP1?

There were certain updates that you had to have before SP1 would apepar in WU, and without them I don't think even the standalone would work either. Your drivers (mosto f them anyways) needed to be up-to-date too. After my reformat, mine didn't appear until I had gotten all the updates and installed my Creative drivers (but not nVidia's... strange). After updating all my drivers but the video (I was just using the default VGA compliant ones at the moment), it appeared, and worked (finally, after trying for a week before my reformat).

Re: What should I notice after SP1?

    No noticable changes for me...

    Sleep still doesn't work properly

When I wake the computer, I can't watch flash videos (Youtube etc.) until it's had a fresh reboot.
I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling flash player aswell.
    Any ideas?

Re: What should I notice after SP1?

Chimp, what video drivers you using?

sounds like the overlay subsection isn't coming back properly. Except for the useual suspects (antivirus, firewall etc) causing the problem, its most likely just to be the video driver.
