Ludicrous but would make a fantastic build log!

@ shakerist. CnQ should kick in so will be in the power saving state anyway as GUIminer does not use very much CPU power at all; not sure how to lower this though.

Does anyone know if OpenCl 2.1 is any better than 2.5? 2.5 seems to beat/equal the benchmarks from 2.1 and not use any CPU power, interested to know if anyone has compared as 2.1 is meant to be better than 2.2-2.4.

OK, so I have chucked on a few extra commands in guiminer and my hashrate has shot up !
Running core @ 800, with no extra volts and fan set at 80% seeing as I am at work and don't have to listen to it.....seeing 300+MHash/s now

    Think I went with : -v -f 1 -w 64 which I found mentioned here - not that I know what they mean

try -v -w128 if you have a 5850, the f affects how slowed down your PC gets when mining, although even at 30 it stills slows mine down quite a lot!

You can treat -f as the target number of fps for your desktop

Cheers - tried 128 and 256.....settled on 128, albeit there doesn't seem much in it

Yep, tinkered with this too....perhaps an improvement, not too convinced, but will keep searching for the magic numbers !

Well in the end -f1 should give you the fastest result, but assuming the desktop isn't taking a lot of power to run, it probably won't make an appreciable difference.

If the desktop is taking a lot of power to run, i.e. a game, then you'll just get rubbish performance. Aero previews and so on don't do well at the default 30.

I tend to leave it at 30 as default and change to 60 for gaming.

Re: "Folding" for profit, not fun - Bitcoin

    2 Things:

I've now received money from Britcoin and the amount i got was the full amount without any fees.

Britcoin seems to generally offer better rates than MTgox. I previously cashed in my bitcoins at MTgox but by the time dollard are converted to euros and euros to Pounds, the exchange rate was awful (around 1.75 or worse to 1)

I currently have $90 at MTgox from cashed in coins. Right now, all bitcoins are going to Britcoin. When Britcoin is offering a much better rate, I cash in my bitcoins there and buy bitcoins at MT gox once the transaction is confirmed at britcoin. Should MTgox offer a better rate, I'll sell the coins there, buying at Britcoin. I'll deduct cash periodically from Britcoin now as it'a much cheaper.

Happy mining and exchange rate arbitrage!

Re: "Folding" for profit, not fun - Bitcoin

Yeah I cashed in with MtGox yesterday when it went high in the morning but in retrospect I think I'll start using Britcoin instead now, like you say after $>£ conversion you get slightly stiffed.

Well, I have now (finally !) got past the magic 1 bitcoin point (yayyy !!) - early evening yesterday, and now clambering towards my second one...... @ circa. 300Mhash/s over the last couple of days, it is not too shabby - especially when compared to my GTS250 OC before

Another 4-5 bitcoins, and the 5850 is paid for
Next up after that, kinda got my eye on a Synology DS110j/DS111 ...... lol

Re: "Folding" for profit, not fun - Bitcoin

ive been having issues connecting to bitcoin rpc since 4:45 when i stopped it. I restarted gui miner still not working. I now have 0.24 btc i got 0.1 in 5-6 hours god its gona take a long time to get the 5850 ... Would this bitcoin thing go on for a while or would prices drop dramatically within a month ? or would it become too difficult for someone like me to make any money?

It's entirely speculative. It might, it might not. No-one can say to you definitively what will or won't happen. It could leap to $60/BTC overnight....it could crash.

All I will say is now is the time to get mining if you're going to do it before difficulty levels leap.
