Nice one marshalex! We're approaching 20GH/s now

I'm hoping it'll settle between 100GH and 200GH or so, that should make for a good flow of blocks without overloading us

With current prices, my 240 khash/s will only break even with the electricity bill, if only I came across this thread in May

noticed there are a hell of a lot of Anonymous's that seem to have appeared, and doing bugger all - except trying it on and pool hopping.

Re: "Folding" for profit, not fun - Bitcoin

Yeah that's the way it goes with PPS sometimes, this block is taking forever though and any profits made from earlier luck with blocks has been erased by this lengthy beast. Hashing power in the pool seems to have risen nicely then shot down which is a shame.

Re: "Folding" for profit, not fun - Bitcoin

well i've made the concious decision to abandon this block - 6+ days and no end in sight, and i can't get above a 0.59 return so likewise has obliterated the profit made from the last block.

a lot of new workers hasn't really helped, looked just now and there is 163 workers @ 16.88Gh/s.

now i don't know if it's just an anomaly of the server/site but how can someone with just over 26000 shares be above the likes of kev and myself with 37000 & 32000 and have a higher return while not mining...........sort of me off if that's correct.

Re: "Folding" for profit, not fun - Bitcoin

possibly, but if they hopped from pps then in theory their return should be lower as pps has a low guaranteed return. not only that it wouldn't be worth doing as the change wouldn't take effect until the start of the next round.

Re: "Folding" for profit, not fun - Bitcoin

I'm not totally sure how it works to be honest, I've seen people bragging about getting about 150% of their estimated production rate by doing it though, a lot of pools have some mechanism in place to block it I believe?

Re: "Folding" for profit, not fun - Bitcoin

Ok guys this is a very interesting thread - but having read through the first 12 or so pages can somebody answer me this.

I have a core 2 duo machine basically sitting doing nothing and don't pay any electricity bills at the moment - what would be the best card(s) to get and be up and running 24/7 and start earning some bitcoins??

Any thoughts please guys?? Is it a worthwhile project to make some spare cash for a wee holiday or such like.

Re: "Folding" for profit, not fun - Bitcoin

    my 2p is this.

the sweet cards to look at with a price vs return would be the likes of the 5830's which are dirt cheap at the moment or 5850/6870/6950 - although someone will disagree. or hey if no leccy bills are paid why not build a crossfireX rig and get some insane hash rates.

in regards to the leccy, nothing dodgy is it? like............................plugging in to next door lol.

if you pay absolutely no leccy then the coins are sort of free per se. but the price of coins dropped not so long ago with a hacked account which lead to a run and the price plummeted from $20odd and hasn't recovered that well - currently 1btc is worth £8. and as the difficulty goes up the harder it becomes to make a decent return - se my post above ref 6+ day block.

in short, no bills..........go for it

or with bills..................a double edge sword
