    Re: 2011/2012 Premier League season

Wenger has to be held accountable for many of the shortcomings of this Arsenal squad, but personally for me there are problems in the club that go deeper than anything Wenger can fix. The board and a yes man of an owner who was brought in to maintain the status quo, for example. I would give Van Gaal a shot at the Arsenal job...

2 new faces in defence, 1 in midfield and 1 up front, change doesn't happen over night.

If Wenger goes, Arsenal will be worse off, unless we could attract a manager of higher skill and I don't think there are many managers out there that could fill Wengers boots. You say sack, I say stay, he will leave if he feels he can not run the club any more and if that ever happens, you'll know were in the pooper.
I agree, he shouldnt be sacked.

But it was plain as day where he needed to strengthen, defence was an absolute must and for me Mertasker (or however you spell it) was a panic buy ... I understand that he wants to keep Arsenal in the black (in financial terms) however even if he would have signed someone like woodgate he would have been better off, he has been playing well for Stoke (yesterday aside).

But the Gunners are crying out for someone like Samba, ok i know hes not world class, but Arsenal dont "Buy" world class players anymore. a Big strong centre half is what you are missing the most.

But i find it unjust that Wengers head is being called for, for a start Fabregas hardly played at all last season, so really you have only lost Nasri from last years squad. So essentially it's the players that should take the majority of the responsability.

I agree with DannyM that Arsenal would be worse off (longer term) if they sacked Wenger.

    Re: 2011/2012 Premier League season

arsenal cant sack wenger on the basis of 5 games this season, Yeah they lost two great players but Cesc was always gonna go at some point and the nasri sale was brilliant 25 mil now or nothing in a year.

You get some bad luck and a few bad results and suddenly its sack the boss. A manager has a long term plan usually i mean liverpool had a good start and gary linekar was muttering about the league on MOTD kenny dalglish never said we'd win the league this year he said we need to build and get into champions league he has a longer term plan and i for one think he has taken us a step in the right direction however we have a lot more steps left to take.

Arsene wenger is the same at arsenal he has built the club up to be punching above its weight thats a good thing.

Anyone remember what alan curbishley did at charlton bankrupt to prem league then got them mid table then left and now there what league one.

5 games? sorry our run since we lost the carling cup is shocking and relegation form. i think we managed 3-4 wins since the carling cup final.

    Re: 2011/2012 Premier League season

We’re 5 games into the season, we’ve lost 3 and we’ve conceded 14 goals. That’s an average of 2.8 goals a game we’re shipping. Weighted over a season, that’s 106 goals. That my friends is relegation form. I've managed to dig up some stats from twitter last night. In the last 26 games we’ve picked up 33 points out of a possible 78. If you looked at George Graham’s last 26 games in charge, he picked up 27 points out of a possible 76. He was a manager who didn’t have a £120million wage bill at his disposal, a manager who had won a trophy within the previous 6 seasons and he certainly hadn’t left £50million sitting in the TPA fund.

Arsene Wenger is some how, still sitting in a job after overseeing our worst run of form I can remember. We’ve conceded 33% of last seasons total conceded goals inside the first 5 games. This from a manager who was charged with improving the defence in the summer. This is a problem he’s been trying to sort out for 5 years and he’s systematically failed to improve year on year. He doesn’t want to address the issue. He has Tony Adams sitting in Azerbaijan twiddling his thumbs, he has Steve Bould training kids and he has a budget that would allow him to bring in anyone as a defensive coach to sort out these problems.

budget is now tied up til january. If he spent all that budget on a useless player you would moan.

Also common sense would dictate that if i were your boss and i was gonna fire you i would replace you with somebody better. Who is gonna do a better job than Wenger. I said the same when people wanted benitez gone from liverpool who can you say 100% will do a better job than what you have.
We got hodgson in yay that turned out good

Anchelloti is available and still livining in london as far as i know. Also, who was Wenger before he came to arsenal? he wasnt proven and certainly on paper not a better manager then George graham when he arrived.

Its as if you HAVE to recruit either Morinho, pepe or fergie in order to have a decent manager as by your logic. all managers below those are rubbish and impossible to become great managers.

its as if morinho, pepe and fergie where born as great managers

Now thats not what i said is it.

you are right who was wenger before he joined you but are you or any other arsenal fan gonna be happy if they hire joe bloggs from whoever to take over. Arsenal fans will want a star manager and whoever you get will be expected to perform pretty quickly. Just before arsene took over how were you guys doing pretty dismal right 12th in 94 5th in 95. You had a tiny ground no youth academy,

Arsene has done alot behind the scenes at your club for you. balance sheets are right the new stadium has been built huge increase in total revenue. Yeah no big money signings and a policy to play youth. i mean that must really suck for you seeing the likes of fabregas van persie walcott wilshire and so on come through the youth systems and become great or world class players that must be really painful to see.

Your youth system has created more great players in the last decade than pretty much any youth system in the world bar Barca and Ajax this was all setup and implemented by arsene wenger. So he doesnt know how to buy big but that's not a guarantee of success is it. The list of big money flops is endless.

Shevchenko, Robbie keane, Craig bellamy alberto aquilani and so on.

Lets be honest you've had a bad start but a lucky goal here or a good refs decision and the whole team atmosphere will change.

It's gonna be a bad season for Arsenal. Anyways, I am gonna watch their Bolton match this weekend and hope they can gel together.

Walcott a world class player? So thats 3 players you named that have come through the ranks in the past 6 trophyless years. yup best youth system bar none

You going to start mentioning denilson and diaby while your at it?

And to be fair, only one of them came up through the Arsenal ranks. The others were just bought in and Arsenal continued their development. van Persie was hardly a kid when you bought him either.

    Re: 2011/2012 Premier League season

I would have to argue about the Arsenal youth setup, I class the youth setup/Development as bringing through "local" talent, not buying them at 17 from France or such countries and training them up.

Man Utd, Liverpool, Everton, Villa are all far better at this than Arsenal.

All the teams have bought foreign youth players, but how many can Arsenal say they have Not bought and brought through recently ? I could be wrong but i can only think of Wilshire and maybe Gibbs ...
