Still not recieved this yet even though it says its out for delivery. Wouldn't be surprised if they use the adverse weather excuse if it doesn't get delivered.

    Re: City Link tracking problems

I'm also waiting for a delivery, was supposed to be here on monday. Gave my local depot a call yesterday and asked about collecting in person, was on hold for about 5 minutes whilst she went off to ask someone? She then comes back saying they cant get hold of the person she needs to ask and tells me to leave my number. I figured they probably wont call me back so just told her to arrange delivery for today (wednesday) if possible. OK she says, and what do you know nothing today.........ok the snow here in brighton has been pretty bad overnight which i understand.

The tracking on their site just says "in our network" even though the status before that says "arrived at depot ready for delivery"!

really need this delivery to come soon as a pc with no graphics card is no good

    Re: City Link tracking problems

Tracking remains at 'In Our Network' until the final 'loaded onto van for delivery today' shows up. Even if it's at your local depot and you can go there to pick it up, that counts as 'In Our Network'. Bad luck on the delivery scenario, I suppose I've been fortunate under the circumstances, but even though my delivery driver was friendly, he wasn't the least bit apologetic about what happened. It's as if I should have been expecting it. I think I'm going to set myself a price cutoff point for buying from non-citylink retailers. If it costs under x pounds (say perhaps £10) more to buy from somewhere that uses a better courier, I'll do it. That's usually e*****, since nowhere else has a similarly large range to Scan and is safe to buy from (i.e. remove M**** D***** and E****** C******** from the equation). A shame.

    Re: City Link tracking problems

Well unsuprisingly it didn't get delivered, reason being "the driver was not able to deliver these goods", presumably cause it took so long to deliver all the other parcels on the van. Will have to see if it gets delivered tomorrow. Might ring them up to see if I can collect it from the depot and do their job for them

    Re: City Link tracking problems

If the snow is bad where you are, I suppose that's excusable. The snow has sufficiently melted that the roads are pretty good where I am, so there's no excuse for local-side delays.

    Re: City Link tracking problems

    Just a quick update

Checked the city link website to see if my parcel is out for delivery today, Status was still on "in our network". Gave them a call and asked where my parcel is, they told me it was still at my local depot so i decided to drive there to pick it up (22 miles). When i got there, I gave the guy my consignment number and they went looking for the parcel only to come back and say they cant find it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

City link are such a bunch of c***. I was told it was definately at the local depot so did the 40 minutes drive only to get there and to be told it was lost!!! so bloody useless!

they're now basically telling me that the parcel is lost and to go and inform scan which i've done so already. Scan have no ATI 5770's in stock now, so I guess i'll be getting a refund from them. as a result of this, I've now had to order from elsewhere. Just wish scan would use a different courier....

    Re: City Link tracking problems

On the third of January I bought a new hard disk. It was due on the Thursday, but due to snow CityLink did not attempt a delivery.

On the 6th, we were told that it had been loaded onto a van for delivery. Obviously it was not, we were under 12 inches of snow, but we remained optimistic for a friday delivery. By friday, the snow had mainly thawed, and it was perfectly passable.

On Sunday, unhappy at the prospect of waiting for Citylink, we decided to go and pick up the hard disk ourselves. It took us 45 minutes, the snow was fine. Every single road from our door to their door had been gritted, and the trip was no problem. When we got to the depot, it appeared that there was a pretty big backlog of stuff, but the few workers who were there seemed to be too stressed to find our parcels. There was a pretty big queue of people (about 6) and we were told not to let anyone in. It took the woman 15 minutes to find two of our parcels, and she was rude and unhelpful despite the conditions. From within the doors, we regularly heard parcels being dropped on the floor. Eventually I got my parcel, after some wait. I understand that Citylink have trouble in such conditions, but the setup they leave, with unhelpful staff, drivers who don't even so much as attempt delivery (albeit in the snow) and packers who seem to take no care, I can really understand why Scan offers free delivery for Hexus members. Other couriers are much more efficient, couriers who I have never had any trouble with. I'd hazard a guess on having made about 12 orders from Scan over the last 3 years, and I have had trouble with Citylink with at least 3 of them, which to me at least isn't great service.

    Re: City Link tracking problems

What the success rate on Scan's deliveries are I'm not sure, but overall I have a roughly 40% success rate with citylink deliveries being on time without incident. Compare to this to so far 100% with interlink (If you excuse a delivery arriving at 3:30 instead of the 3pm cutoff!) and close to that with most other couriers. Only citylink and the now defunct Amtrak have been this useless.

    Re: City Link tracking problems

A couple of weeks ago, the snow came down here in Bucks really bad on the Tuesday morning. All the schools shut and Tesco's looked like it had been looted. There was 18 cm of snow in my road and of course, City Link put their hands up and gave up for a week. However, on that very morning, a FedEx van ventured into the road which is a dead end, the driver dug himself out of the virgin snow numerous times, he had a spade with him. He knew how to drive his RWD van in these conditions too, gentle throttle, rocking the vehicle. This chap was in my road for a good 15 minutes to do a 30 second job. If only City Link had this dedication.
Of course, I emailed FedEx and told them what a fantastic job their driver did. I actually got a reply, saying they had had 2 other emails about this fellow and that his boss had taken him aside and given him a pat on the back.
Well done FedEx. Take note City Link.

    Re: City Link tracking problems

One of my friends has a relative that used to work for citylink, for something like 10 years. Supposedly, the reason why citylink staff are so under-motivated is that they are paid the minimal amount for their work and are generally in a rather oppressive environment. The low wages are apparently evident by the fact that citylink are the cheapest courier for large businesses to use, hence why they used to be so popular, until it was evident that shops would earn more sales by using a courier that didn't have such a disastrous level of consumer satisfaction. Seemingly places like Scan try and avoid having to up spending by doing things like getting hexus to subsidise the shipping, enticing people to still use the site. Fortunately, or unfortunately, however you see it, it seems to work.
