I tried all types of connection as many different ways as possible and there was a big difference in overall quality between preview and capture, and after my endless - labourious - boring filter tests I concluded that the filters perform some sort of 'auto filter' on preview but nothing on capture.

If it was a 'known' dodgy batch of cards then I would feel better about it but I have to say that I doubt it and honestly believe this card was never ever intended to capture and clean up external video sources (as advertised).

How many other people subscribed to this thread can confirm the same findings as me ?
I haven't done any testing for myself, but I have noticed had a few things I've recorded come out poorly when the preview looked just fine. I only get it on a few channels; I think it's the ones with a weaker signal.

So I wonder what the new merger of AMD and ATI will do for ATI's tuner technology. Will we see them built on the board like they were originally promised, Mike?

Don't know if it's funny or sad...

Mike: Is there any possibility that ATI would release Linux drivers?

Problems with TV tuner drivers 6.14.10.175 and ATI MMC 9.14

    Helo !

My TV Tuner card is PowerColor Theater 550 PRO, PAL version. The cable TV signal is PAL B (576i, region settings Germany) .

Under Windows XP, I updated the TV Tuner drivers to 6.14.10.175 and I updated also the ATI Catalyst to release 6.7.

The first start for ATI MMC 9.14 was OK. All the cable PAL B channels were detected with autoscan and displayed correct.
After the ATI MMC 9.14 restart, it could not detect the 576i PAL B signal. It displays presence of a 480i signal with black image and stops responding to any other command.

To solve the problem I rolled back the TV Tuner drivers to previous version 6.14.10.173. Now ATI MMC 9.14 runs OK with all TV cable PAL B channels without freezing.

Do you have any idea how to upgrade the TV Tuner drivers to 6.14.10.175 without having problems with ATI MMC 9.14 ?

    Hi guys,
Haven't posted here in a bit, so here's some quick replies:
BFever, I'm not at liberty to comment on anything merger-related or unreleased products, so you'll just have to wait and see. Regarding release notes, I really am trying my best to get them in. It's not as simple as it sounds, but hopefully we can get it arranged in the near future.

hrlslcbr, as of right now these capture drivers don't support Linux. It is a possibility in the future, but right now I don't know whether it will be done or not.

sami, I've forwarded your issue to our QA, but they say they haven't heard of something like this, so I'm not sure what's going on there. Don't forget that PAL standards vary from place to place and we can only test a limited sample for driver releases, there's always a chance that some region might have some bugs. If you say it works fine with the previous driver, I'd recommend just staying at that driver for the time being. Don't worry too much about getting the latest driver if it seems to be causing problems for you. Remember, realistically latest isn't always "greatest"

    Thank you for advice Mike!
I will keep the previous Theater 550 driver (6.14.10.173).
    Best regards

I think I didn't understand what you mean, because the PCIe version WON'T be 'faster' in any way...

By the way; a new driver has been posted at ATI's website.
