This is not just you unfourtunatly.

The whole thing seems to be a rapidly growing problem in the UK and it is one of the main reason I wish to migrate to another country when I'm a little older. As you quite rightly said, so many peoples lives seem to consist of doing nothing but getting drunk all their waking hours and wreaking havoc on normal peoples lives on a daily basis - most of whom work hard for the things they do and buy.

The problem is regardless of the intentions of the person(s) who did this do your pride and joy - they will get away with it, again and again. Infact, even if they did get caught ( which isn't going to happen ) they'd probably get nothing more than a slap on the wrist and a small fine.

If you went up the back of some one in a carpark, chances are you'd have the deceny to leave a business card on their windshield to sort something out. The fact is, good people get used in this country something cronic. I bet most of the motorists on here have all been convicted atleast once for speeding - while this IS a crime, and a potentially serious one - it must annoy many of you that so many shoplifters'/vandals/theifs/rapists and attackers go for months, years or even indefinatly without ever having a slap on the wrist.

Yet, Mr Joe Bloggs taking his hard-earnt car out for a spin, paying his premium car tax, over-priced insurance and dutified petrol, will get convicted for doing 80mph on a empty motorway at 2am.

People moan that this is a nanny state, the irony is most people who live in the state could probably benefit from an actual nanny. I'm sure Englands average IQ is plummeting year on year.

Our family cars ( 3 cars, 1 camper ) have had no less than 4 acts of vandalism on them in the last 18 months. We don't live in a 'bad' area either.

1x wing mirror broken ( on the pavement side! - cost me £140 )
1x roof slashed, radio stolen. £80 radio. £1400 roof and dash replacement. Nice.
1x muppet jumping on the roof of our old company vectra. ( We actually heard, chased, and caught this guy - slap on the wrist by the police who were en-route and caught up with us after rugby tackling the drunk to the ground )
1x driving into the back of my car... small dent and lots of paint chips - still not got it repaired.

Anyway, I do feel for you, very much so. I hope you manage to get this sorted out with minimal problems from the insurance people as well. You really aren't the only person with these issues... I think I speak for many people here when I say everyone is as fed up as you with the additude of what seems to be a quickly growing minority of people.

    Best of luck!

Sorry to hear of your run in with idiots, who don't care. It makes me mad too, we save up and get something nice, someone else gets jealous or is drunk and decides to ruin it. You would think with all the CCTV cameras around, crime would decrease. But OH NO!.

Well all I can really say is im glad I live in an area where this sort of thing wouldnt happen. No horrid teenage chavs around to damage my precious new car. However if I lived in another estate about a mile away i am sure it would be normal.

Theres not alot you can do other than keep a very close eye out. I would take the punishment into your own hands if you do ever catch anyone attempting to vandelise your car.... after all, the police won't want do much!

Other than that you could consider CCTV, but this seems extreme, why should we have to protect ourselves in ever-more increasingly expensive ways just because of the idiocy of other drunken chav morrons.

I know how the op feels, most of the cars I've had have suffered at the mercy of chavs and other ignorant sasonacks

    1) MK2 Golf, in pretty much mint condition, parked in tesco's Car park, came out of Tesco to find bits of my car all over the place, one huge dent down the drivers side rear quater panel and scratch to go with it, went deep into the metal work, I sold the car for £300 and bought (2)

    2) Nissan Bluebird, in works car park, someone cought it with a van and pulled the front bumper off and left without telling me

    3) Vauxhall Corsa. surprisingly nobody tried to damage thast one, BUT I was cut up by some silly sod on a roundabout, it was wet and as I jumped on the brakes I slid on the wet surfface and hit the back of him, result was a dented front wing

    4) Nissan Almera some chav kids pushed a trolley into it leaving me with a pea sized dent in the drivers side wing

    5) Vuxhall Vectra - If anyone hurts this car I'll kill them, it's in original condition and I love it to bits/

annoying but it happens a lot... mostly why im doing this http://forums.hexus.net/showthread.php?t=114475
I know for a fact that the people doing it here, walk past regularly

yeah I have a crappy car atm, but it will also bennifit everyone else that parks nearby - we have had a windscreen compleatly smashed, many side/quater windows smashed, stones thrown at cars, some light keying. Thats the deliberate stuff, then there is all the dents (my front wing, dads bumper, 3 other cars have been dented whilst parked outside, with no details left.)

One of my biggest regrets, in the last 5 years is to have ignored the man that keyed my car. I saw him do it - from a long distance, then he walked past me, then 5 minutes later I noticed whilst argueing with a resident. I would have caused him some very serious injury's were I a bit more suspicious (if your car has lots of paper taped to the windows, and a parking fine, you might assume that the person standing next to the car is reading it, rather than keying the passenger door...)

I think it might help if anyone found guilty of vandalism or other similar antisocial behavior was forced to literally work off their debt to society. Maybe some sort of labor camp. I would guess a month of farming supervised by a drill sargent type would both reform and deter.

Hmmm, I'm a little confused, but that's usual after a curry and a bottle of wine. There may indeed be a few tower blocks in Glasgow (though I'm not so sure many Hexites live in them) but there's none anywhere near to 500ft, let alone 500 yards...

Re: Why must people damage my cars??!

The bin men caused £200 worth of damage to my car the other week - I parked in the same place I do every day in the same road close to where I work, I went back to my car after work & a big fat yellow dent & scratch on the front bumper! (the bin men vehicle is yellow & only goes down that road on a Friday) As my insurance excess is £200 anyway I may as well pay for the repair & have done with it. Needless to say I've park somewhere else on a Friday now.....

get their plate and tell your insurer. you wont have to pay the excess if your insurer can claim from the other insurer.
