Have a bash with HIC (Hertz Insurance), I had a 1.4 Clio for my first year - would have been thousands with anyone else, they did it for me for £800 Now got a Megane Coupe and 1YNCB and they did it for £850

Yes, I am afraid this is illegal in the eyes of the insurance company as it constitutes what they call "insurance fronting". This is where you incorrectly insure a certain person as the main driver on an insurance policy with the statistical main driver listed as an additional driver, in order to deceive a lower quote. You could try this if you wanted to (not that I would recommend it), however be warned that should you be involved in an accident then you would most likely be left with no insurance cover (assuming the company established that you were insurance fronting), and may possibly be forced to pay damages for the other person(s) involved in the accident. Your best bet would be to try and insure yourself as the main driver, and (hopefully!) build up your no claims bonus over the following years. In the long run this will lead to a cheaper insurance policy for yourselff
Have you tried comparison sites? It is best to shop around, so you can get the best deal. not because your parents have used the same car insurance company for decades means that you have to be with them. Chances are, you can get discounts from other car insurance companies. Here some tips you can use:
1. choose an older car model
2. install safety features such as seatbelts and airbags (if possible)
3. keep a clean driving record
4. minimize your mileage - don't drive if yo don't have to
5. get good grades in school -- yes, you can get a discount by being a conscientious student.
Err, what? No car will get a legal or valid MOT without seat belts as far as I'm aware. They're mandatory, not optional. In regards to airbags, they're relatively expensive to retrofit in vehicles that aren't designed for them and would seem to go against the aim of saving money.
Wouldn't retrofit airbags count as a modification, thus raising your premium anyway?
Why does that list look like a paste from some US site?
Awww poor guy. First ever post and he's been slated! He'll be scared to post again at this rate!!!
yes, this is illegal. the named driver option is only for occassional drivers. If you own the car, it is best to get a policy under your name
Im in the same boat when it comes to getting my first insurance policy. Iv used autotrader to get an idea of what less than £500 would buy then using 2 of those to get quotes using gocompare and confused.com even tried Ikube which stopsyou driving bewteen 11pm and 5am. For a 1L corsa and micra best I can get is £1900 with pass plus.
Going to try some of the companies suggested on here and see if they can beat it.
after one year of driving it will half as long as you were the main driver and you didnt crash or get any speeding tickets plus clio have lower insurance than other but ford are also cheap
