Your kidding me lol Since when did a polo let alone a 1L get the status of a 'boy racer' lol These insurance companies have lost the plot!

    Re: Car Insurance

Well I dumped my insurance company that I'd been using for years this year when it was time for me to renew my policy. I'd been using CIS ever since I'd passed my driving test.

Anyway I get my renweal for my Vectra this year, it was £100 more than it was for the same car last year. I'd not made any claims on the policy to speak of, I was very very annoyed to say the least, it had gone upto £500 from £390 from the previous year.

After messing around with confused, compare the market (or meercat lol) I went straight to direct line and pretty much halved the CIS renewal for £500 fully comp to £269 !! Needless to say I signed up straight away.

Just for a laugh I've just done a quote on Aviva (Norwhich Union) and they want £800 to insure my car !!!

Good 'innit ? I don't think so lol

If the vehicle was originally built without seatbelts then it does not require them to be legal, similarly other safety or emission laws aren't applicable to older cars. IIRC front seatbelts became mandatory sometime in the 70s and rear seatbelts in the 80s so it's unlikely you'd run into many cars without at least front belts.

And you think a new driver would be in a car like that, let alone no ABS, traction control etc

Okay my mistake grouping my 1l with the stereotype on polos. As a young driver, use adrain flux or tesco, my quotes were very cheap for my age and lack of no claims.

I would hope a new driver would drive with a lot more care and attention if they didn't have a full array of driving aids and safety devices at their disposal, that wasn't the question though. Older cars don't have to comply to laws introduced after they were built.

The suggestion to add safety devices which weren't on the original car doesn't make sense for any halfway modern car. ABS/TC is often not standard, but it's very expensive to retrofit and I would doubt it would make much of a difference to insurance quote - how many insurance companies ask if the car is fitted with ABS if it was an option?

What are these strange things of which you speak?

Heck this is the first car I've owned that has power steering

What stereotype on polos? I'd say a 1l car fits in perfectly with the slow, safe car stereotype they have.

Do you live in an expensive postcode or something? My A3 2.0T s-line is less, and I only have 2 years no claims...

How many NCB you got? Is the policy in your name? And what is the total excess?
