Do you use a similar set-up with each car then? or do you differ depending on the car?
I havent really delved too much into that stuff yet but i'm only level 8 so most races i can enter havent been too hard.

tbh I'm playing it using the sticks on the pad (have friends who use face buttons for accelerator/brakes) but i dont use manual gear much, I'm going through it using automatic and usually when i run into problems (hard races)i'll start using manual just so i can get the most out of each gear, Do you all use manual or is there anyone who prefers automatic?

I always turn off all driving aids, that includes using manual gearing. So yeah, that per-car driver aid config thing is super annoying.

Does the PS3 still have pressure sensitive buttons? I seem to remember GT2 worked quite well using the buttons.

Yes i try and run the same. All aids off and manual.

Hopefully by the time i need better throttle responce from the quickest cars i'll be using the wheel.

Braking has caught me out a few times though, seems like the cars have a tendancy to snap sideways, more so after making them lighter. But i've been doing ok once your used to it. Although i've not raced using a controller controller for ages, and never with the PS3 pad. 360 pads triggers seem much better to me.

At level 12 at the moment though so the quickest car i've driven is the Merc on the second set at Nurbergring. But the races i've done have been using somewhat underpowered cars.
Not that i've done that many though, the special events seem to get you more money and greater experience than the normal events available early on anyway.

Just something else i've spotted.... what's the point of licences? Races seem limited to your experience rating, not your license level. Unless when expert events open up they're license limited there??? Mabee........

Re: playing with a wheel, is it a huge improvement over the pad?

If so, which is the best to go for, either VFM, or money no object? Is there a large difference between the wheels?

I'm happy enough with the pad. It's the game I'm less impressed with.

TBH, this is increasingly getting on my nerves, it seems virtually every car, regardless of configuration can randomly begin fishtailing with the slightest braking effort.

Yes, it's just bizare. And it's really winding me up.

Really been fiddling with the brake bias and little different.
Kinda strange that every car seems to have the exact same characteristics too, even the 'snap back' when correcting an oversteer aswell.
The more i play it the more i'm disapointed with the game. AI seem to drive not paying any attention to where you are aswell.

I think for the last 5 years they spent their budget on beer.

    Re: GT5 stuff

Having brought a PS3 purely for GT5 I have to say I'm little disappointed with the game, in particular rally events. Thinking back to rally in GT3 there were quite a few good tracks and the cars used to slide about quite nicely... To start sliding round a fairly sharp corner with the accelerator full on and in some cases coming to almost a standstill is getting a little frustrating.

That said whilst the rally portion disappoints me I'm enjoying the standard road events I don't care to much for the special events.

Its interesting to read about the fishtailing problem, I had this happen to me a few times and watching the replay I could see for the same corner I was applying the same level of braking from the same speed to not have it happen for other laps.

Even though it has its failings I get such nostalgia playing it

If anyone will be racing tomorrow night about 8 or 9ish I'd be interested in giving the online componant a whirl. My PSN ID is PsychoBen87

Likewise, but I can't help but feel that it's a shadow of its former glory. Especially given how long they've been working on it.

They might have spent some money on the license. But certainly not on getting it right.
Compared to the Iracing Nascar made with manufacturers data it's chalk and cheese. But yeah all those Americans won't care playing with the Nascar element. It would be a little more fun if they were less like a bus though.

Don't get me wrong though i'm still quite enjoying it, but back in the day GT was always the racing game.

No no, I mean the fishtailing problem is primary a concern for NASCAR vehicles and tracks because of the speed and weight, and because of the fact that they practically drive in a straight line continuously, any slight braking throws a mass of weight forward and causes fishtailing. It feels like they spent so much time on that, that they missed the fact that the fishtail brain damage has spilled over onto all the vehicles even when it shouldn't. Like, less of a modelled factor, and more of a scripted tweak.
