MS are the big bad guy as far as software is concerned. There is actually some sympathy for them as a console developer just because sony were running away with things

Should say a bit more about online really - Microsoft are so far ahead in that area its the one bit of doubt I have. I loved Xbox Live, it really was the best step forward in gaming since... well, since the SNES (which was a step forward simply in the sheer brilliance it delivered) and it was done perfectly.
I don't want to take a step backwards.
When I got a new game for my 360 I knew it was going to have tons of life in it. Sinlge player, mulitplayer with mates and then much fun to be had playing peeps from all over the world.
With the PS3 its a lot more patchy. For starters, you have to check that the bloody Sony version of X game is actually online - I know I just assumed Virtua Tennis 3 would be online.
Just been reading a preview of Armoured Core 4, and the 360 version has a few little extras (apparently voice chat is not included in the PS3 version), its no big thing, but Sony are pushing the PS3 as the latest and greatest, and thats simply not true with regards to true multiplayer online gaming.
Sony need to close this gap, they need everything online, they need to offer everything Microsoft can.
In the mid-term thats got to be the aim - close the gap with Microsoft and at least be seen to be offering the same value and online features. V Tennis 3 falls short. V Fighter falls short of DoA4.
I know people seem to have decided the average PS3 owner is so thick and chavlike that they don't even know what online is and wont miss it, but I doubt thats true.
Close the gap with the utterly brilliant Xbox Live service, or be seen as 2nd best. That is Sonys problem.

Suprising, but interesting news. Not what I expected if I'm being honest. If it's true, then it looks like the console "wars" are getting a bit more exciting
Lets all agree to phase out the word fanboy - people hide behind it.
Nintendo are the supreme, untouchable overlords of innovation and originality, as well as quality of gameplay, touches of genius, and all that jazz. They really are.
People are still playing Mario, Zelda, Metroid and the like because a lot of the very finest games of all time (most actually) are Mario, Zelda and to a lesser extent, Metroid games.
No its not, there are enough quality games to be going on with. MotorStorm, F1, Fall of Man, and plenty more if you didn't catch them first time around on the 360.You say PS3 has no games. That's true now
Super Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime 3, Super Smash Bros Brawl.Name me 3 titles for the Wii that are coming out that are must buys?
Halo IS all those things, yes. Biggest mystery of recent gaming history - why is this very average FPS touted as something special?Halo I found boring, tedious and repetitive.
If true its good news for Sony. Quite possibly though people have learnt that in the land of the Console Launch the pre-order man is King!
OK that was a bit weird but I saw Minority Report again the other day. What I meant to say is that increasingly pre-orders are talked about alot whereas in the old days there was no such thing. Look at the Wii, if you didn't pre-order there was diddly-squat chance of getting one. It was widely publicised as well with both the Xbox 360 launch and Wii that all units would sell out so people are learning I think.
I disagree with you on Halo.
Halo when it came out was absolutely fantastic, the control system worked, the graphics were groundbreaking for consoles and it was the first FPS that I found truly playable on a console. The health system was an innovation, and splitscreen coop was fantastic! The gameplay was good single player, and even better coop (driving around with your mate in the Wathog was amazing). I spent a lot of time playing it through and through again.
Different strokes for different folks and all that though.
Halo 2 - I found terrible though.
Tom: Umm you've forgotten the astronomically priced 360 launch bundles already then? Game had several for £800+ at the time, with most being well over £500.
Game's PS3 bundles are currently ~£550.

To be honest Stoo, I probably am.
I do remember retailers weren't "forcing" people to take the bundles if they wanted one on launch, I can only find Amazon who don't seem to be insisting on some kind of bundle with the PS3.
I could have got my 360 for £280 at launch if I didn't want any games with it. In the end I got 3 games, and a pad for £440. Which is about the same price as a PS3+hdmi cable.
Not criticising Sony or the PS3, its not their or the products fault. I just feel a lot of people may be preordering but may simply not have that kind of money available when it comes to launch.
I've not played Halo 2. I tried Halo 1 because I was interested in Halo 2 on the PC, and wanted to know if I'd like it.
@Stew - When I made the comment about the PS3 not having any games, I should have said 'many'. I agree that Resistance looks good, F1 is definatly top of my launch day list, and Motorstorm looks like a riot online .
You kind of re-inforced one of my points about Nintendo though when you listed those 3 games. All games that are sequels to previous Nintendo games. And they call themselves innovative.
Anyway, the point of all this is that I think no console can really claim the high ground, because they all do things differently and they all have their pros and cons. I wish all the bashing would stop, as it's really tiring. I don't hate the Wii, I just don't have much interest in one. I don't hate the 360, I just prefer PS3. Why can't the world leave it at that?
And I promise not to call anyone a 'fanboy' ever again .
Noone will argue that Nintendo keep rereleasing the same type of game, thats obvious, but look at the jump from Super Mario Bros to, say, Super Mario World. Both 2D platformers, but the later is the former perfected. Then comes Mario64, taking the series into 3D, and making in the process, one of the best games ever.
Zelda is the same, Link to the Past becomes Ocarina of Time. 2D to 3D, both games fantastic.
The games are the same style, they have the same characters in them, the aim of the games are the same, but they evolve. Innovation in gameplay is what Nintendo do.
Anyway, getting back to the PS3, at the moment, I'd say (putting my sensible DirectHex hat on) the 360 is the best purchase. Its got Xbox Live, its got tons of good games. I've already had one though, and I've no interest in buying another, so for me, the PS3 is the one. Thats my reasons for getting one.
