Hmm who's that?
Ahhh now I see why you wanted to change your desktop wallpaper
ALOT of pocket money Dubai is so damn expensive.
I was in Bar Zar last night as on Tuesdays, they do 5 drinks for 80 AED, and that's a bargain compared to normal prices. A pint of beer is about £7-8
Last night was lively too, and despite the awfully low mood-lighting, managed to take a few shots.
A group of girls actually came up to me and asked if I would do photos of events, and one of them (a cute one too! ) asked if I could give her private lessons.
So it is still a "land of opportunity", but you really still flash your cash around far too much for my liking.
A few from last night:
brillient pics. well done
I must admit (as an undergrad civil engineer) that the buildings lack any real individuality (the complex you're staying in not the others) - so no wonder you got lost.
Understandably they are white for cooling purposes, and made as such to economise and speed up construction, but don't you think it ruins the overall sea-front, compared to the modern glass buildings. Sure concrete is a material of wonder, but I can see them facing the fate of the wrecking ball in less than 50 years if Dubai progresses further.
They just remind me of some cheap apartments that have been built on the sea front in Eastbourne in the past 5 years.
As for Dubai I don't quite get it's purpose, except for the rich and famous - can I ask when you're actually there what are the day to day prices like? [Or is the company footing all the bills ]
Oh and nice pictures by the way

Have a look on google earth or google maps and the building look pretty from above. But it gets completely lost at ground level
Life has become expensive. When I first came here just after 9/11, we were staying in 5* hotels for less than US$100 per night. Really living it large
Now, hotels are very expensive (hence the apartment) and even every day life is not cheap. Even if you go to the big supermarkets, unless you get stuff on special offer, the "normal joe public price" is higher than the UK.
I guess I'm fortunate as I'm out here on work and I have to pay for it all initially, but then claim it back on expenses. But even the company is asking to keep costs down so we can't go out every night or it gets frowned upon
A few from last night, peering over the balcony of the 32nd floor .....
good pics

Nice. I prefer the second one, if only because it doesn't give me the willys.
I find Dubai really off putting, it seems to be just full of big nasty high rise buildings and very artificial, too lavish and people with more money then sense. I love nature and natural scenery, someone mentioned top gear in the thread, somewhere like Vietnam would be wonderful, driving along scenic roads and boating on those lovely rivers!
Hope it's ok for me to add a couple of mine from JBR also:-
