    Re: AMD - Bulldozer Chitchat

I don't see how it's not a good comparison, showing Intel's highest performing part, heavily overclocked vs the new chip. Besides, that was just something chosen by CAT (I assume), there are plenty of benchmarks to choose from on the site.

Some AM3 boards can be updated to accept AM3+ chips, in fact I think some revisions with the black socket differ only in the colour of the plastic used.

    Re: AMD - Bulldozer Chitchat

AMD being so tight lipped this close to release is a bit unnerving. I know AMD usually does this but at the back of my mind it makes me think they have something to hide, and not in a good way.
Heres hoping to it being something good they're hiding as I want too keep my pc all AMD.

    it's just not fair.

If it would be a good method, then the review sites would compare the CPUs like this.

One can't make any conclusions comparing these results because:

    1.) not every 2600K can hit 4,7Ghz

2.) it has 2 cards vs 1, and everyone knows that scaling is not perfect.

3.) Those cards are overclocked, which considering the nature of the benchmark is completely unfair.

4.) I don't think that the 2600K had a low end motherboard and the 870 is pretty far from the higher end ones.

I don't want to defend AMD, if bulldozer will be a letdown in terms of performance , then I'll take the intel route after the release...

Anyway, we don't need to wait too long for geniune reviews

    Re: AMD - Bulldozer Chitchat

I just mean I see it as positive for the AMD chip. You have a near best-case-scenario Intel chip vs the new chip and the new chip beats it. Make sure you're only looking at the CPU score, that's all that matters in this case, ignore the whole-system and GPU scores. Motherboards don't make a massive difference in performance, usually within the margin of error of the testing.

    Re: AMD - Bulldozer Chitchat

It seems a lot of these leaked scores indicate that Bulldozer seems quite decent in its 8 core version. However, there was another leaked benchmark with a very early revision Bulldozer CPU where the performance was less than a six core Phenom II X6.

Anyway,I hope AMD does release a good processor. I certainly cannot afford a full upgrade ATM but cheaper processors will help in that regard!!

    Re: AMD - Bulldozer Chitchat

I can't see it being slower than a Thuban. The early revision could have been a very low clocked test die, don't forget this is AMD's first 32nm release so they will have been working on the lithography too. As I think I've said before, I usually find these pre-release numbers are actually very conservative. Maybe it's a marketing tactic so people are more surprised by the even faster production models?

It was a very early revision and probably the microcode was not optimised too.

However, for some reason I am quite excited by Llano. The one featured in the AMD videos runs at 1.8GHZ,has 4 cores, 400 shaders and a TDP of 45W. Since the top end desktop Llano has a TDP of 100W I suspect it will have much higher clockspeeds.

Those benchamrks have been out for a while and seem to be from very early revision Bulldozer CPU(microcode is probably not bug free for instance) and seem to indicate that the CPU is slower than a Phenom II X6 too.
