There's going to be a new socket for the 2nd gen bulldozer (I think this means )
Do you think there will be backwards compatability? I don't really want to buy an AM3+ mobo and then have to buy another if I want to upgrade to the next BD...Originally Posted by The all-knowing Wikipedia
I highly doubt there will be compatibility between AMx and FMx ever....and if wiki is right, then the AMx sockets may be due to end...
Either way.....the AM3+ boards are quite cheap and youy won't be seeing "BD E" until possibly 2013.....

Yeah TBH I think it's quite unlikely future BD with IGP will use the same socket. They've done a decent job of keeping this socket for as long as they have though!
I don't think this will tip me, TBH. To me, it all depends on the gaming benchmarks.
Thats quite an interesting chip that engineering sample, at twelve corse but with such a low clock speed it sounds to me much more like a server board, and those replacing the opteron maybe?
In fact it actually says on one of those pages Virtual Machine: 2 x Opteron...
SO yes finding out xhat chips they are would be interesting
thats a shame am socket will end... just as im waiting for BD to see what its like (hoping it kicks ass ofc) then get that or intel, now this is just a slight downer, i havent upgraded since buying my current rig (mobo and ram and e8400 were bought over 3 years ago, straight on release date) but i would have upgraded my cpu a bit ago if there was something better than the poop 45nm quads that were so overpriced. Now this just makes it seem like im going to be in the same situation if i go with amd lol.
the successor sounds like its going to dominate with the NB being incoporated into the chip and HT 3.0 and 10 cores lol... i do wonder what quarter it will land in 2012, if its q1 (am i being to hopeful?) then i guess i will consider waiting, if not then i will keep BD on my list as i guess its still better than Intel as its 1 socket 1 chip still or so it seems lol! Atleast AMD boards are generally cheaper
extremely hopeful... thats the way i like it .
I want to buy mine september time lol, only been waiting for BD to come out to compare AMD with Intel. but with ivy bridge comming in q1 (or atleast from what ive read) it just makes me feel like waiting more lol, so many choices!

Interesting (especially as it's a pure FPU test), although not getting carried away yet

Supposedly,Bulldozer yields are fine:

Llano had yield issues due to the GPU side.
