    **** Asus:

    http://www.overclock.net/t/1318860/v...#post_18436753

Now,it could be quite possible, that someone might release a hacked BIOS or you might be able to use an existing BD compatible BIOS,but this is a VERY poor show on the part of Asus.

    Edit!!

    It gets worse:

    http://www.overclock.net/t/1318860/v...#post_18436965

So they have a compatible BIOS and then tell people to buy an R2.0 motherboard?? LOLWTF??

    Re: AMD - Piledriver chitchat

I wonder if that's true or just the customer support agent talking rubbish?

I hope it's the latter, or I'll seriously think twice before buying/recommending their motherboards in future...

As pointed the Crossfire V seems to be fine in reviews, but I wonder if this is true of other motherboards??

I am afraid to say FX 8350, 8320 couldn't support the M5A97 EVO, M5A99X EVO, or the Sabertooth 990FX motherboard.

To get support for the 2nd generation FX CPU's, you must purchase a R2.0 version board.

    Re: AMD - Piledriver chitchat

I don't see why not, the motherboard and chipset should support Vishera, it would probably be a deliberate block in BIOS by ASUS if it didn't work, and I doubt AMD would be happy about that...

Someone decided to throw caution to the wind and try an FX8350 on a 970 EVO(rev 1):

Hilarious that their CS,were trying to tell their customers to buy new motherboards. A poor show,Asus!

Edit: Any idea if Vishera is using RCM? There are a few disagreements dotted around but no-one seems to have conclusive evidence.

That is really really bad. Looks like Gigabyte users have been treated a little bit better.

    Re: AMD - Piledriver chitchat

I started a thread over on TPU and one of the reviewers said they would contact Asus. Another chap called Flanker(well known AMD overclocker) says they should be fine.

One of the chaps over on OcUK is going to test a FX8350 with a 990X based motherboard:

    http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/sho...74&postcount=8

    Yet,what is Asus CS smoking??

    Re: AMD - Piledriver chitchat

It looks like the Gigabyte GA-970a-DS3 has been updated for the 95w chips, but not 125w. The GA-970-UD3, GA-970-D3 and all 990 based boards appear to have full support.

The DS3 as far as I can tell has no VRM cooling, I guess that's why PD 125W chips aren't supported. Oddly though, the older revisions of the D3 also had no vrm heatsink (newer revisions appear to have gained a heatsink), yet claim to support all PD chips.

    Re: AMD - Piledriver chitchat

Looking around the internet,it seems people have forgotten about the Anandtech benchmarks which show a Core i3 3220 loosing in two lightly threaded games,ie,Skyrim and Diablo 3. Unless some more reviews say otherwise, would that not indicate the Core i3 3220 is not necessarily better in lightly threaded games??

We need more FX6300 benchmarks to clarify this!

Another essentially paper launch then. Anyone found anywhere with piledriver FX chips in stock yet?

    Nope.
Kalniel: "Nice review Tarinder - would it be possible to get a picture of the case when the components are installed (with the side off obviously)?"
CAT-THE-FIFTH: "The Antec 300 is a case which has an understated and clean appearance which many people like. Not everyone is into e-peen looking computers which look like a cross between the imagination of a hyperactive 10 year old and a Frog."

for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.

    Re: AMD - Piledriver chitchat

I was looking through the power consumption figures of the FX8350:

    http://www.legitreviews.com/article/2055/13/

    http://hexus.net/tech/reviews/cpu/46...er-cpu/?page=6

A lot of forums seemed to be obsessed with how "bad" the power consumption of the AMD CPUs are by looking at under stress programmes and video encoding software. However, this is irrelevant to gamers.

However, looking at the Hexus and Legitreviews articles,a whole FX8350 system is only consuming 40W more at the wall, with games.

Are people really derping all over the internet due to 40W under load? Why don't more websites test gaming loads?
