Thats got to be over £600 in real terms by now, if not more!
It seems that most parents with a bit of money even 15 years ago weren't able to say "no" to their children.
I had to save up myself and by the time I had saved up enough, I got an A1200 instead!

Buy a DX10 card and wait for Crysis... The PS3 games aren't that impressive...

When you add a wireless dongle and the ability to play HD optical media, the PS3 is probably a little cheaper than the 360. There's also no forking out for XBL to play your games online. Looking at it that way, the PS3 isn't as much of a rip.
The 360 has a HD player coming out, but the only way i could justify buying a PS3 is if i wanted a BR-player. The rest is gimmicks. Sony's online play has always been abismal. Xbox live has a much better standard of people playing it, And anyway...
    Xbox 360: £270~
    Xbox Live: £40/year~
    PS3: £425~

...Buy Xbox Live for almost 4 years... By that time Both consoles will be far into redundancy.
    Mhmmm.... Thoughts

I think that no one will get "real" figures because Sony are trying to bury any truths that might show them up to have failed. Of course their PR dpt will be shouting about the good things, but covering the bad.

It may be that the rest of europe was hard done by OR that the entirity of the figures being spouted from various sources are all a load of crap...

Bunjiweb, are you an investigator for the FBI X-Files? I don't think there is any cover up. Even in this data age with the hunger for numbers we won't know the true figure till month end when stock is taken and the true figures are in.

I don't think they were any problems with supply in Europe, I was in Calais (booze cruise, oi oi!!) on launch day and there were plenty in the toy and games shops and selling at a steady rate all day.

I am one of the people who purchased a PS3 solely for its BD players capabilities.

Its cheaper then the cheapest stand-alone BD player and I may even be tempted to buy Gran Turismo and RE5 when they are released.

I personally think that the BD capabilities were a bad idea from Sony, they've put the gamers off due to high pricing and late availability and have left the HT enthusiasts t pick up a cheap player while leaving Sony out of pocket on games royalties.

Could be an exceedingly expensive error.

It sold out in malta, the rest of europe, it's even worse sales, the UK is really the main buyer of playstations in europe.

WHy is everyone reducing the price of them then - to get rid of stock?

You saw the photo of argos, I went into WHSmith and they had reduced the price of the PS3 there too.

I wouldn't believe what Sony are trying to feed us. There wasn't the hype, even all the major stores in London didnt open at midnight, only Virgin and those people got their free TVs, me thinks Sony is extremely desperate to rectify their situation.

However £400 for a blu ray is cheap at the moment especially when it comes above more expensive stand alone players. I saw a PS3 at cex ages ago and it was so not impressive then, and the guy at the shop said don't bother with it. None of my mates have been talking about it and that is how the hype is spread... rumours and playground gossip (so to speak).

There is too much at stake for Sony to lose out, regardless of fanboy situations. This is a business that is cut throat and sony have bet a lot on blue ray and they have to win, stock sitting on shelves does nothing for them.

Units running out of stock and getting a shortage creates the hype much more than 165,000 units (29,000 units 2nd week)

Some people not aware of these figures will think if they got stuff in stock its not as popular as it should be.

All in my opinion of course

I think this image sums up the PS3 quite nicely

Just got back from uni, and when I asked any of my mates whether they had a PS3, they all pretty much the same thing, "God no, I'm not wasting my money on that, maybe when they bring out the good games, but all the games they have now are crap"

I also can't believe it's been out so long in the states, yet there still isn't a half decent selection of games for it.

The problem is developers don't release the good games early as they have alot riding on the game. So they wait for a bigger base of user before releasing. and with a "drought" as it were on consoel sales for the PS3 developers are less likely to go releasing big games yet, and also you see teh PS3 losing alot of exclusivities because of the risk vs the established Xbox 360

But still, they should have more games, even if they're only poor quality budget type ones given the length of time it's been out.
