From what I've read it's tricky and expensive to work on. a game isn't going to sell with out the highpoly models people expect from a PS3 and other next gen systems, as well as just coders trying to get their head around utilising the cell processor being a pain, all that means longer creation times and higher expenses, meaning a greater risk that the smaller companies can't afford to take. meaning once again not a great deal of crappy smaller titles to bump up the software base. Most new consoles have this struggle, but how each one survives or if is another story completely.

    Very true.

Remember the PS2 was really really simple, so there was a flooded plethera of crap, budget games. The problem is, if you're going to code a game for a 8-core cell processor system that uses a base of OpenGL (right?) then why wouldn't you just utilise Dual/Quad core and DX10, which will allow for much better visuals? Especially if the PS3 isn't selling very well at all.
And that scenario is only if you are putting all your eggs in one basket, you could make a cross platform PC/X360 game like Shadow Run.

Actually that needs some rebuttal. I've heard directly from developers (of Oblivion) that the PS3 is much easier to code for than the PS2. Infact it's not a lot different to coding for the X360 or even PC nowadays. Code can be transferred between the three far more easily than with older generation consoles.

Why make developers sign a NDA so they don't blab about the painful process that is coding for the PS3 then?

Well with Microsofts XNA system X360 to PC and vice versa is incredibley easy, X360 to PS3 is a bit trickier but the route form PS3 to PC would probably be best to go through the X360

But yes more recently I read something from the guys behind the new Ninja Gaiden saying the PS3 isn't THAT hard to work on.. and on a side ntoe they seem to be hitting the PS3s limits has they've had some of their development kits start smoking.

Sounds completely par for the course to me. Why wouldn't you want to keep the market spin coming out only from your official PR rather than developers? I'm sure owners of the X360 SDK/dev kit had to sign something similar prior to release.

Why would Gabe Newell slate the PS3 so Badly?
    http://www.computerandvideogames.com....php?id=155309
Gabe slates lots of things. He also slated multi-core PCs if I remember correctly.

Lets not take away from the support MS has given X360 developers though - Sony still lack a little in that respect, but that's on a software level really, not hardware, and my point was it's a hell of a lot better with the PS3 than it was with the PS2.

John Carmack has stated hes not exactly pleased with the amount of effort needed to acheive trivial things that can be done much more easily on other platforms:

    http://www.ps3forums.com/showpost.ph...64&postcount=3

It suprises me that hes spoken out against it, hes usually fond of things that push the boundaries and take things to the "next level"

So what we've established is some people find it hard, some people find it easy. That would be exactly the sum total of all the discussions in the last year about PS3 vs Xbox360 vs PC.

It all depends of skills sets of each team and shock horror people's viewpoints on stuff!

They are different platforms, lets leave it at that now shall we.

lol that looks the sum of it GeorgeTuk. On a another side gotta feel sorry for nintendo, granted lots of what i've read state that intendo in the past hasn't been particularly friendly with 3rd party developers software wise and reading what miyamoto said recently seems most 3rd party developers have been assigning 4th tier teams to do their wii games.

Even if the sony was the same price as the 360, (and i actually wanted to buy a console) i still wouldn't necessarily buy the PS3. It seems over-spec'd and a bit... well... unfunctional. It just gives off the vibe of "I don't really fulfil my own purpose, to be honest".

The thing is, the wii is still hard to get hold of and Nintendo arent purposely holding back supply.

but to think everyone will have white consoles, as soon as they bring out the different colour ones sales are going to go on and on.

A great success story for Nintendo which I admire because of their braveness. Sony hasnt really innovated which I think is why it has failed - they have just gone for bigger and faster is better. 360 did that agesss ago!

Still I want to know when sony will release the other figures... as if this is a record amount of sales surely it will be published somewhere with a more accurate number soon enough? I can't wait to see Sony realise their mistake. Anyone seen that french video with the launch in Paris? And their director in France looking noticeably edgy/nervous?

    Anyway I'm drifting away...
