At looking in the section I see to many Bioshock threads so I thought it would be nice if any questions or what ever about Bioshock goes in here .
There are so many Bioshock threads that my head feels like it's going to explode!
So many threads and I wont be able to pick it up until next week when I get paid
Well adding some good things to the thread.
UPDATES ON SECUROMâ„¢, PC ACTIVATION, AND A TECHNICAL FAQ
August 23, 2007
We have been reading and listening to your frustrations over SecuROM, PC activation problems, and technical support issues since BioShock launched on Tuesday, and we've devised a plan to help.
Starting immediately, we will be upping the activation count to a 5 by 5 plan. We will be raising the maximum amount of computers a user can have BioShock installed on simultaneously from 2 to 5, and allowing a user to reinstall BioShock on each of those computers from 3 times to 5 times. Also, we have in the works a revoke tool which you will be able to run on your machine if you want to free up that key and move it to to another computer (this works very much like Steam or iTunes system). We are also working with SecuROM and 2K customer service, so that when you do need to call in support problems, you get answers to your questions faster, without much waiting or being bounced around. SecuROM has been given much more autonomy to help fix your problems quickly and effectively. I am personally sorry for anyone who got bounced around in the past couple days (I even think I contributed to this problem) and we're going to make sure that does not happen in the future.
As for other technical issues, we are bringing on a team of tech support that will be on the 2K forums 24/7 to help people resolve their technical issues. Our QA guys are in the offices and on the forums, too, reproducing issues and looking for workarounds and compiling information that they can put towards making you a patch and updating the knowledge base.
Also, we are aware that our activation server went down last night, stopping some of you from finishing your installs. The server is up and running now and we have corrected the problem that caused that crash.
Finally, we have released a FAQ, which you can view in full below (and will also be posted on the 2K Forums in the Technical Support area) that will help clear up a lot of questions and misinformation that has been floating around about SecuROM and PC activation.
And as for widescreen, we also want to say we completely understand a user's desire to augment their FOV. BioShock is a harrowing experience, but we don't want anyone to feel limited (or motion sick!). So we are in the process of working on an official PC patch to give widescreen PC users a choice to expand their horizontal FOV, and are investigating creating a similar update for the 360.

Hey, Just a quick question is bioshock actually working???
I just got mine in the post this morning and went to install it. It installed fine, came to the patch bit and a error came up saying some file was missing or something. I pressed ok, same thing pressed it like another 8 times and it went and the patch installed in the background. Then it did the rest of the installation and go to saying i should install latest nvidia drivers and view the readme. i pressed ok, closed the readme anyway and downloaded drivers to install. then i realised that the installation had finished, nothing was there anymore.
Only problem is there is no shortcut, No start menu wich i thought was wierd so i just created one from C:/ folder.
It then said i had to activate so i entered the code (this is why i also think its strange hat i didnt do this during installation) but it says activation failed... (code is perfect)
Is the activation actually up as steams countdown says that its got 2hours for thier preloads to be able to play it (im on retail box though)

Im working from home today and I cant activate it either! I get server errors so I assume the servers cant cope and are down.
What we share with everyone is glum, and dark...
I installed and activated it first time with no problems. No technical issues yet with the game either. Just lucky I guess
I got a boxed retail version this morning, it installed and patched itself okay but I also got an 'unkown server error' when it came to activating it. I think quite a lot of other people around the world are getting the same.
I've sent an email for manual activation but I haven't heard back yet.
Can I hear a big round of huzzahs SecureRom for developing such a dodgy system, and another for 2K for implementing it so well!
Just spoke to 2K, servers have gone 'pop' - his words. No ETA for when they 'un-pop'.
EDIT - activated this time. Activation is a hurtful thing. I'm weeping.

Well they must be up again. Just installed minegot the stupid failed to activate bit. Went bak and re did the serial and it activated fine.
Now to see how soon the game will crash.
For those with Widescreen there is a hack from Widescreengamingforums.

Works for DX9 not 10 yet. Some report success but its only been tested on XP so issues may remain for Vista users.

Yay i just spent £25 for a heap of steel coated junk.
After my above post i just uninstalled and re-installed the game because of that error message which turned out to be: Binkw32.dll was not found"
now it installed fine but when i try to run it i get th error on exe now instead and it will not go!
Just to make sure, as i have not actually activated it yet.. is this sucuROM junk mean you can install it twice or activate twice? there are differences there as i havnt actually activated once yet. so will trying to reinstall and get it messed up but so i could get to the activation bit what happened to me the first time? or am i at my limit of 2?

You should be ok with installing it, its only when you activate that you loose on of your install lives. Well, that's how I understand it to work anyway.

using 'work' in the loosest possible sense...
That sounds about right. Remember what I said about them being too cheap to rent servers? Wouldn't surprise me if all their customers are trying to activate on a Pentium II sat under a desk somewhere. The cleaner probably just unplugged it for 5 mins while she hoovered the office.Originally Posted by noTHINGface
Well, since the demo worked pretty flawlessly on my ancient system, and the game itself looks OK, I bought it through Steam. It's now all preinstalled and waiting for someone on the other end of t'internet to 'officially release' it. Nice. It's a good thing I'm a relaxed and mature individual these days or I might be tempted to start ranting and raving on a forum somewhere.
Although I have to say that the Shacknews coverage of "BioshockGate 07" is quite chuckleworthy. Silver lining and all that.
