£32 on steam eh? you an get the 360 version for that price down in morrisons hehe. i diddnt see the pc version there but i assume its a hell of a lot cheaper than the steam version and you get more out of it(box, manual etc)

That is why i think steam is a rip off. you can bet BIO for maybe £20 if you look right

I find the game perfectly playable in widescreen (1680x1050). I've read the threads and really can't see what the fuss is all about - it's hardly a gamebreaker!

gratz to 2k and SecuROM on the Anti-Pirating measures.... jesus
I thought 2k were smarter than this. Sounds like you guys have been having quite a few annoying niggles. I really do hope this is fixed quickly, as I don't particularly see myself buying this soon.

I got terrible fps drops in battles in the demo, which was annoying..
    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

    Re: **Bioshock Official Thread**

Well, I've started to hit a few snags now with it. Nothing major but still they are there. Still got the sound issue mentioned after updating sound drivers and turned off the reverb and EAX. Its not quite as bad and now mainly does it on the loading screens or when it is quiet ingame. I have noticed the sound looping occasionally on the load screen, kind of sounds like it has crashed but it is fine.

Secondlly, now this is what is getting me. First level and right up to the Medical Pavillion everything running silky smooth in 1024x768 and all details on high. As soon as I get into this area though it gets really laggy. I can see the writing in blood on the floor as the door opens but no textures. Wait around for a minute or so (at this point as soon as I step in it froze) everything is there other than that and the textures start appearing. As soon as I turn the corner and get attacked by the sentry gun the lag starts and I can barely move. Keyboard is unresponsive and I'm travelling further than I want and it is choppy.

I've had to turn off the dynamic lights and post processing effects (bloom lighting) and it is running fine again. Now it still looks great but the bloom effect really adds to the atmosphere. I find it strange that it was running fine until this section

I have read however that Nvidia and also ATI are releasing new drivers on Monday that are specifically designed for Bioshock. Hopefully I will be able to put all the settings back where they were once these drivers are released.

Finally, has anyone else noticed exiting to Windows? It takes an age before I can use my PC again normally after exiting the game. It takes a few mins before Windows starts responding normally (Last game that caused this to happen was caused by a memory leak, wonder if it is the same here). Looks like something is definately wrong with Bioshock, bit of luck it will be fixed soon

    Re: **Bioshock Official Thread**

Got my tin box copy on Friday too, nice presentation

I think I must be the only one who hasn't had any issues. *touch wood* It's been running smooth as a smooth thing, apart from when I overclocked my graphics and got black boxes, a quick driver update fixed that though. Oh, and the mouse lag But I'm used to that

It's great, the graphics are great, the sound is stunning and immersive, as is the storyline, and it's not buggy/crashing at all (again touch wood).

Must be something to do with the fact I'm not running vista

I'm loving not having a 60gb system/C drive anymore, means I can just install loads of games and not worry about space, especially as Colin Mcrae Dirt takes about 11GB :|

edit: Ferral, what are the specs of your PC? Mine doesn't lag and it exits to windows instantly, but that's due to the general speed, and the amount of RAM so it doesn't need to attack the swap file.

    Re: **Bioshock Official Thread**

I'm having no problems like that either, Ferral. Maybe an ATi issue plus a memory issue? Howard and I are C2D 2GB nVidia users, you're A64 1GB ATi?

Edit: I'm using the new nVidia drivers that came out for the Bioshock demo on Monday last week.

    Re: **Bioshock Official Thread**

Yeah thats right. Strange thing is that performance literally dropped as soon as I got to the Medical Pavilion.

I have forced the world lighting now and it seems to have settled. Playable once again, really bizarre I must admit. Hopefully the new ATI drivers will have an impact on performance and I should be able to put everything back up.

I am actually thinking it is a sound issue, when I done the doctor boss fight everytime he spoke it seemed to stutter. Could be just me however. When I get paid in September going to invest in another 1Gb stick of ram.

Other than that I am absolutely loving the game. Atmosphere is superb and the way it plays really draws you in. Love the ease of use when switching between Plasmids and normal weapons. Now I'm off to find the camera at the wharf.

Try out the user-developed widescreen hack (which now supports DX10 and Vista x64, yay!) and you'll see what the fuss was all about You get a much, much more "natural" and proper field-of-view, just like the Source engine which runs widescreen gloriously. Even 2k have acknowledged and apologised for the lack of proper widescreen support - apparently it is just 4:3 with top and bottom chopped off, which is a piss-take to put it lightly.

    http://www.widescreengamingforum.com...ic.php?t=11658

    Fix:

    http://dl.tocaedit.com/bioshockdFOV.zip

    1. Run the hack.

    2. Set your desired "Width FOV" and "Height FOV"
(Please refer to the readme.txt that came with the hack for more details)

    3. Run the Game.

    4. Press the "*" to activate the FOV settings once in game.

    16:9 users:
    Width FOV: 0.75
    Height FOV: 0.75

    16:10 users:
    Width FOV: 0.84
    Height FOV: 0.84

+1 for JimNastics post above - It makes a whole load of difference running with the hack. I'm still being plagued by lock-ups which is a shame as its taking the polish off the experience.

When do you reckon the official patch will be released? I hope it's before I start my second play through of the game. Although, I only want it for the widescreen issues as I've had no other problems.

    Re: **Bioshock Official Thread**

How many hours will you get out of it I'm wondering. Currently at Arcadia just after the sub explodes. Hope that there is loads of play left in it. Feels like I've barely touched the surface so far. Been visiting everywhere I possibly can and decided to play through rescuing the little sisters. Even been revisiting some of the other areas where you need extra plasmids to get into them for example, went back to the Medical Pavilion just to open up the areas with the frozen water (1 optional area there).

Does this game have more than one ending?

I've played the xbox 360, but they only way they can patch the widescreen FOV etc. is via Live
, I think. No mods in the future for this version too. I also like to play at 1920x1200 (on the PC), the res of textures was no way near.
