Well, threads not been used for a while but i'm exited.
Cheers for the heads up Andy, my connection is getting mullered with Technet stuff at the mo, but I should be able to give this a shot in the morning.

Played it, seems like good fun. The ship battles are going to be tricky though.

    Re: Empire: total War

Could someone answer a question for me?

At the moment i'm living at home so my pc is not connected to net. I have pre-ordered the special forces edition. Now to just play the game normally i don't need to log on to steam or anything do i? When I have some time i will get a new license for my anti virus, and figure out my steam login stuff (work is a bit hectic atm- plus i'm away on holiday from the 28th). But i'm assuming that those units in the special forces edition are not available until later in the game is that correct?

    Thank you in advance.

    Re: Empire: total War

Found what i was looking for:

"Q: Will I need to be on-line in order to play Single-Player on ETW?

A: You will need Steam running in order to run Empire. You can run Steam in off-line mode, so you only need to be on the internet once during installation and from then on you do not; unless you want to play Multi-player of course, which will again require you to be on-line." http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=222206

This kinda thing is starting to annoy me ah well. Will try and find some time to sort steam and my anti virus out.

Special forces are available later in the game or when certain provinces are taken. i.e. When and if you take Kashmir the Gurkha troops become available too you.

But you can pick them straight away in a single battle or MP battles.

    How about another screenshot

I dont mind companies using Steam for their games. Means that once you`ve installed it once you dont have to bother again as any pc install you just dl steam and it does all the hard work.

WIsh more companies would use it in fact instead of using Game for windows etc

    Re: Empire: total War

Any ideas on the spec that would be required to run this show smoothly?

I am not convinced TW needed to move to fully fleshed-out 3D. I mean this is a bit late to say now, but frankly I don't expect to get much more juiced up about a game because its units are more individualised or shinier. On the other hand, I do get geeked at being able to see a massive 1000 vs 1000 battle developing on my screen without chugging to a choppy frame rate.

Those who've played the demo, how did it run for you and what is your setup?

I ran everything on ultra @ 1680 X 1050 with no AA, ran very smothly most of the time. I expect to turn it down a little for the main game as i want the largest unit size.
Quite supprised that it wasn't more demanding.

    Re: Empire: total War

Well i allowed it to dl today while I was sleeping (night shift work) Now i have one of those mobile t-mobile sticks which said I was getting about 300 to 500 kb a second. But in the steam menu its said between 6 and 92.5 kb a second. Anyway left it to download- got up and saw it now said updating 0% and after a long time it went to 1%. I then paused it and then resumed it. A while later it said 'updating 100%' but still was showing the dl speed. I then paused and resumed thinking it may have just got bogged down or something. But it went back to updating 0% after i resumed. Can anyone tell me if the demo has dl ? or should i just delete what i have dl and start again. Had to turn my pc off before i went to work so paused it. If i resume it tomorrow will it just start where i stopped it.

I hope that makes some sense (not had a lot of sleep)

Steam always resumes where it left off. If it's saying something odd, just try to lauch it, it'll tell you it's not ready and update the activity for the dl.

That's the point you idiot, XP doesn't do DX10 at all, to say you've heard bad things about DX10 running on XP is like claiming you've heard Princess Diana has breathing problems.
