    Re: RIP Duke Nukem Forever

Honestly, I'm quite glad to see this happen and I hope the game isn't released ever, theres no way the game could live up to 13 years (can't believe its that long) of hype, and it would end up being a MASSIVE disapointment if released. Its definately ashame to see another developer go though

Thats the thing though, its had 13years of development which would make it almost PERFECT. Theres a reason why they didnt release it and that is because they are not stupid like EA, they wanted a proper game not some ruined rushed crap and unfortunately the method used alot now adays makes the most money. I hope someone picks up the IP (not ea hopefully) cause it must of been nearly finished so anyone could make crap loads, maybe the team developing it could?.

    Re: RIP Duke Nukem Forever

While I agree that it's unlikely for a rushed game to not feel that way, I am not sold on the idea that 13 years of development time would necessarily make it 'almost perfect'. I think that if you spend too long on a project, you may lose the drive an ability to generate good ideas that haven't been done.

Part of the reason it's been in development for 13 years because they've restarted the development under many different game engines, to start a game 13 years before your intended release date takes some incredible insight into the future of the hardware/gaming industry. They'd have to know the approximate performance levels of hardware, and the details of standards such as DirectX, we may have even moved to a single processing unit (as opposed to CPU+GPU) and not be using DirectX/OpenGL at all in that time frame.

The reasons they restarted the development on new engines is that they'd taken so long on the previous work that the engine they were working on was out dated long before they were ready to release.
I don't mean to sound cold, or cruel, or vicious, but I am so that's the way it comes out.

    Re: RIP Duke Nukem Forever

This is what I posted in the Hexus news article reply:

"I doubt it will disappear as purely on the Duke Nukem name alone they know they will get the sales from it. Someone will snap it up or will be given the rights to franchise and I guess it will be another few years of news and non deliveries xD

This game could either be the biggest joke in the world or a curse for whoever takes it on. I would place my bets on it being released sometime when the only blue moon appears "

I can't really see this disappearing as it will be a cash cow either way and I gather as the game has been that long a running joke whoever, if ever, someone does take it on they know they will have to produce one hell of a game to get past the reviewers at first and the demo will have to be one of the best to date to get the gamers to take it seriously.

Well, I wouldn't pay big money for it but they could probably get a few quid out of me just by doing a slightly gussied-up version of Duke Numem 3D and turning it loose on Steam. Would be a major nostalgia rush shrink-raying mates and stomping them while getting a rocket in the face from the other side of the stadium.

    Re: RIP Duke Nukem Forever

the Duke brand has some oomph, but this specific game would have been utterly crap, it's so obvious.

A fresh Duke game would be brilliant, though, if a new dev decides to go for it.
