Yeah im running all assists off, after some more playing its softened the initial blow and for me seems like it wants to be a middle-ground between arcade and sim - drifting towards the former. The customisation is probably good for some people ("Casual" gamers) so a few of you lot could be interested in that I think the option to upgrade to a 'works' car is a good feature/gimmick.

Its not the steering thats off as well tbh, just the general physics of the game. The "stick the nose of the car into the corner whilst accelerating will get your round fine" returns from GRiD as well. Also the camera shake when your hitting high speeds - now im not saying this doesnt happen but ti jsut feels like im playing GTA4 when your P###ed.

Verdict = stocking filler till FM3 for those sim lovers, the rest of you will enjoy it.
Kalniel: "Nice review Tarinder - would it be possible to get a picture of the case when the components are installed (with the side off obviously)?"
CAT-THE-FIFTH: "The Antec 300 is a case which has an understated and clean appearance which many people like. Not everyone is into e-peen looking computers which look like a cross between the imagination of a hyperactive 10 year old and a Frog."
TKPeters: "Off to AVForum better Deal - £20+Vat for Free Shipping @ Scan"
for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.

Got my PC version today from Gameplay - looks brilliant at 1920x1200 at high settings, with a fine fps. Loving it. Even if it's got a bit of Forza 2 about it.

Re: Need for Speed Shift: sim racer?

Been playing it a bit this morning.. not really very impressed to be honest.

I think most of the problem isn't so much the driving model, as the controls - I don't feel connected to what's going on, whereas something like GTR:Evo allows you to push because you can feel what the car's doing - no chance of that in NFS:S.

Graphics are okay, but not as good as Grid nor do they run very smoothly on my system for some reason.

And why didn't anyone mention the terrible interface?! I've got a wonderful input device here, it's called a 'mouse'.. why is the game making me use arrow keys to try and pick a precise colour from a colour grid, why am I having to use all sort of keys to just navigate menus? It's awful.

Loading times are poor as well - no hard drive activity going on so I presume it's unpacking something, but even in the car selection menus you have to wait ages for the car to load up when you're just looking at it.

This game really needed a bit more time for polishing, and it could have been excellent, but I guess they were slightly concerned about some other titles coming out later...

Looks really good, plays really good. But it's not me. I'm more Most Wanted than Shift. Lets hope they go back to the arcadey racing with the next NFS.

their has been issues with this game with people using ATI cards. a driver update or game patch will fix that.

i agree the UI is a bit rubish but for me the actual driving is brilliant. Have you tried the settings i linked to in the previous page? try tweeking that to fix your needs.

Also try and do some tire and suspension upgrades on a car as i heard it can improve the handling even more.

Have you tried it online? Are you using a wheel?

Yes, I agree with that. And what's with this 'scroll down for the rest of the menu because we couldn't be arsed to put it on one screen like EVER other game does'. I spoken to people who didn't realise that they had to scroll down the menu, and thought that menu options were 'missing'!

Not totally lazy - it works and it's relatively stable, but they're missing that extra polish to make sure that the interface suits PC users, yes.

    Hopefully.

Have you tried the settings i linked to in the previous page? try tweeking that to fix your needs.
Yes. I tried just about every setting combination (of steering sensitivity and speed sensitivity). They need to allow you to control the sensitivity of different zones, but they don't.

Also try and do some tire and suspension upgrades on a car as i heard it can improve the handling even more.
Done that - the handling of the cars isn't a problem - it's purely the way it takes your controller input and interprets it.

You can fudge it a bit with enough fine tuning of the car settings, but you can only adjust that on your owned cars.

Have you tried it online? Are you using a wheel?
    Yep, nope.

PS PC Demo now out. Recommend trying it:

Re: Need for Speed Shift: sim racer?

personaly i feel that they could have gone all sim out for this but they on purpose diddnt do so because money talks and more people wil buy an arcade game more than a racing sim game like GTR Evo.

Its just the way it is. For me, with all aids off it is definetly a challenging game and one that IMO rivals forza 2.

A lot of hexus fans will be critical of this game as it appears that most of us like sim racers instead of arcade racers.

The framework is laid out and could potential be a great new franchise reborn again. do a little tweaking here and their plus adding 300 new cars and 100 tracks and you basicly have a "Forza/GT" type game for pc users to enjoy.
