Notch has created a new mob called the Enderman, it sounds pretty terrifying: http://notch.tumblr.com/post/8208212...the-feeling-of

I get creeped out enough by the sounds of the current mobs, and by Pob with his green-headed skin - I kept turning around yesterday while working on my epic castle, seeing him right behind me and thinking he was a zombie .

Oh wow I just read through that, that sounds like such a cool mob.
Like the angels in Dr Who

Still one of the creepiest games I ever played was back on the bbc micro, it was one of those early simple 3d maze games, but it had robots(?) that hunted you, they made a "caarrrumm" sound each time they moved that got louder as they got closer, knowing they where very close but not knowing if they are on the other side of the wall or just around the corner ahead got so damn scary.

im making a road by the way guys, the idea being you all join your respective houses up to it with a sign at the branch to say where it goes... if we cant have a town we can at least have an easy way of getting around and also it will make above-world exploration easier hopefully.

    Re: Minecraft?

i could do that actually. was going to put it on bridges at the least. Road is well lit so that shouldn't be a problem.

actually. if i fence it i can put a torch on top of a double/triple height fencepost rather than in the road, that will look nice.

Single block fences are fine, you can't jump onto them like a standard block. It might be wise to clear a couple of blocks either side if they're raised to or above the fence height however. Just remember to place doors fairly frequently so we can escape the fences!

nono, i mean the double/triple height ones just for street lighting

not keen on doors, practical i guess but aesthetically poop, not that you would think i care looking at my house thing - can mobs jump signs?

    Re: Minecraft?

no mobs can walk through signs, no collision on them.
What you can do is use half slabs for the road, fence ether side (AFAIK mobs do not spawn on half slabs, why I used them in the trap service tunnel) also means a player can jump off the road at any point, just not get onto it.

Correctamundo. Was just logging in to say that...

Am pretty sure a path like this should be totally safe:
    Code:
     | |
     |__|
    ######
     ####
     ####
    | = fence
    _ = half block
    # = full block

    Re: Minecraft?

Only need a single height fence a fence is actually 1.5 blocks high for jumping over purposes, which is why a half block should let you jump out but not in.
I was just going to say it'll not stop spiders, so you'd need to raise it and put in a lip, also make a path 2 blocks wide as a creeper will still blow if it's on the on the otherside of a fence I think, just as allen's ascii drawing shows.

The reason I suggested to make the fence 2 high was to stop being shot by skellies.

sod em, if you get shot then your dilly-dallying.

off work next week so i may put in a full day on this at some point

erm.. while im here, and while your here Allen - do clocks still work properly with the altered day/night cycle times?

is there any server mod thing around that would record the number of enemies each player has killed? i think that would add a little bit of "reason" for doing it now that we basically have infinite bones/arrows/feathers/gunpowder/string
