nope nope, full release is November, 1.8 beta is a lot closer than that infact i bet they have a 1.8 pre-release for people to mess with at the penny arcade show and then all being well drop it straight after.

i too propose a reset, the new topography changes are going to be oundit:

lots of people saying that this will be the first new world they have started since 1.2 so something must need it.

No the bed spawn point does work for MP, I've used it, the issue is that you have to rest the whole night, not an issue if you're the only one on the server, then it skips forward like in SP but if there's others online then you just have to sit there doing nothing until the dawn.

On another note after some messing around on SP my design for a TNT strip mining machine is now ready I just have to build it.
If I can get enough TNT I'm going to see if I can get a big hole all the way down to bedrock

Anyway, there's some nice changes coming in 1.8 but I see no reason why need to start a new map, we could just start laying foundations for a town away from the current area and put the spawn there when ready. Then people won't lose what they've made already.

1.8 has new biomes (mushroom one and another that I can't remember), NPC villages and changes to the topography generator so you get ravines and rivers. None of these will be generated on an existing map. It's the perfect time for a reset and a slightly more cohesive town.

OK, it looks like the masses are wanting a new realm, am fine with that. I can keep the current one up if people so wish, or give them a copy of the map data etc if they wanna keep something they've done.

I didn't realise the world changes so much in 1.8, that's pretty awesome.

There are some items in 1.8 that wont work on an old world which means a new map has to be created.

Pob, there my be a slight problem with your strip miner. How deep is bedrock? TNT can fall upto 77 blocks before exploding...

That's probably not a bad thing actually. The strip miner is more of a borer, it doesn't mine so much as destroy the blocks. This way it stops just short of destroying any diamond that may be down there.

Well it works well in SP with this mod http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/...18a-july-15th/ use the miner TNT, it has a bigger blast area and leaves 100% of material behind.

It's mainly due to the aforementioned ease at getting lost that I've been venturing out with nothing and just keeping most of the things I do manage to find my way back with at the castle.
