VS On Woodman - been playing a few days and am liking it but god are there some issues that need to be sorted - sadly there only seems to be me out of my group that is playing this so it's a lonely exsistance.

NC miller here as well, part of Digital Legion (DL)!

Loving the game so far, utterly suck at it but the scale of it is mind boggling. I'll post some pics up in the next few days.

    Re: Planetside 2

Downloaded this last night, but was too tired to play, so will hop on after work tonight.

I am trying to find some decent info about the game, but not sure where to look. The official site obviously shows the Empires and Classes, but it doesn't show how popular they are (I normally chose the smaller, less played side/chars). A few people above have mentioned servers which to me is a big shame that you are all split up, but is there any info out there yet on server population? Are queues an issue? Lag etc?

With regards to classes, the Infiltrators, Medics and Engineers appeal to me the most, in that order. I hear there is a "build" system in the game, any idea where I can get hints & tips on which is a good start for these classes? How best to play them, etc? Guides?

I know it's a lot of questions, but I wanna get a good start, and I wanna know what I can before logging in.

Also, got my flat mate to download it, we'll both be having a go tonight. May look around for a clan too, so if anyone is in a decent one looking for some fresh newbs, gimme a shout!

    Re: Planetside 2

rivaL Xfactors guides are very good. They are on the official site too

MAX units are in short supply right now. I think its down to the fact they now have a resource cost, acquisition timer and are available at limited spawn points. Specialists in these are in high demand though. Get the right combination of MAX units and Engineers and its a devastating force.

Personally I prefer Medic and then Light Assault. The class system so flexible though you'll find yourself jumping between classes regularly as you adapt to the situation. Enemy tanks inbound? Switch to Heavy Assault. Enemy air overhead? Switch to Burster MAX's.

In terms of the certification system, its very in depth, like the customization system. The biggest tip I can give you is they intentionally set all the starter certification costs for every class/vehicle to 1-point. Some have cert points pre-allocated too.
Examples include first tier zoom and extra ammo on the main tank are 1-point each. 1-point gets you the nano weave armour suit on most classes (+10% health). 1-point gets you a more powerful/faster recharge heal ability as medic.
Buy the 1-point certifications. Great way to learn the system. Get some big benefits. At a trivial cost. 1 certification point is earned every 250 experience points currently. You'll probably of acquired 5 of these in your first hour of play even if you have no idea how!

I probably won't be online tonight. Should be tomorrow. If you choose Vanu on Woodman I'll happily send you a platoon invite. Your head will no doubt be buzzing for the first few hours as its an intense learning curve. As soon as you have your first big battle you'll see it was all worth it

Woodman currently has queues of up to around 8 minutes between around 19:30-20:30 otherwise its a very short wait. All factions are equal in game currently as each empire is only (LOL!) allowed 666 players per continent. So when the server is full its a even 33% split.
Lag issues seem to of been resolved. Still some bug crushing work being done.

Very positive review on PC gamer in case anyone has missed it: http://www.pcgamer.com/review/planetside-2-review/

    Re: Planetside 2

Thanks Firejack, I appreciate the offer. As I had already decided I liked the look of VS out of the three empires, I have rolled on Woodman, character name AllenP79, hope to see you on the battlefield some day soon!

Bit of a dismal start though, loaded the game, created the character, was deployed into the game with no choice of where to go and when I landed I was killed by an enemy almost instantly. This happened a few times before I figured out how to change where I spawned and almost made me quit, never to look back, after just a couple of sad minutes. It will be a shame if bad players ruin this game, or if no protection for complete newbies is introduced.

Once I spawned elsewhere, I ran around for about 15 minutes, seeing only 2 friendlies, but a group of enemies. I think I managed to get a couple of kills and got to rank 2, but not sure where to find out. After more running around in the wilderness alone, I then got booted as the servers went down.

Not a good start. I hope it gets better.

    Re: Planetside 2

I feel your pain. The New Player Experience was something flagged up a lot during beta. Its something of a blood bath for new players. A lot of people make jokes in chat about it raining free XP when they see the drop pods falling down.
You'll learn how to find the action in no time. You'll even learn how to flip things around and use your drop pod as a weapon

Maybe while the servers are down head to the Youtube channel chuckskull mentioned. So next time you are a bit more prepared.

Anyone know what the server being locked means? I can't login.

Also, the forums appear to be down. Hope this isn't a sign of things to come. "Something not working? Let's bury our heads in the sand!"

    Re: Planetside 2

The servers were down for a roll back of some changes they made yesterday. https://twitter.com/j_smedley/status/273882722659860481

If you're getting a G37 error that is the login server struggling. If you are on the character creation screen it means the server is still restarting or there is a problem any have temporary locked it until its resolved.

Got to be said the server issues are hurting SOE right now. Don't think they've gone 24 hours without some issue with the servers. That is the polar opposite of beta. The server performance was nearly perfect. I only saw one crash in 3 months.

For the launch a lot of stuff had to come together. Player stats, the in-game store, steam, ProSiebenSat etc etc. SOE also was caught out by the demand (a bit dumb since its a free-2-play game!)

A bumpy launch but I have total faith in the development team. I cannot praise them enough for the work during beta and especially now. Customer Support has been first class too

They can't keep the euro servers up for 12 hours without crashing.

Not good really - I'd be sacked if my uptime wasnt measured in hundreds of days. :/

    Re: Planetside 2

I had another little go last night after the roll back, it seemed to have reset my stats, so it didn't look too bad at the end of the sessions. Got into some pretty good fights, but really need to learn what to actually do base wise. So far I have only played Light Assault, racked up some nice kills, but got a similar amount of deaths to go with it. I think I got to tank 4 or something, but I will be starting the character again shortly (I couldn't remember my old station password so created this new account, found my old account details today and when I logged in I had 1000 SC from when I used to subscribe to DCUO).

So, me and my flat mate will be starting from fresh tonight, hopefully will get a better start this time. Will also look at other classes and vehicles, tried my hand at the Scythe and crashed horribly almost straight away (I didn't check the settings first, so when I tried to pull up I pointed the nose down and hit a tree sending me tumbling - yes I know the setting to change now!). I really wouldn't mind giving the Infiltrator a go too.

If you were a starting a fresh, had 1000 SC to spend and wanted to give yourself a little advantage (I have pay to win, but it's there and I didn't pay for it so might as well use it), what would you buy? A new weapon, a vehicle upgrade, whatever else is on sale I don't know, didn't really pay much attention.

I like the Light Assault for the flying around and will probably like the Infiltrator for the cloak and sniping ability, any suggestions on these would be nice.

I know they were talking about connecting the continents with oceans and naval warfare etc, but wow, this could get seriously entertaining.
