Nah, I think its the screen which is the star of the show - turns heads. Makes gaming a joy and will be great for movies. They'll just have to be clever with the games, avoid disc access as much as pos and, as seems to be the case, do a good line in cheap spare batteries.

Dont compare sales figures yet, these shortages are making the sales figures irrelevant for now. We'll have to wait till the new year for any reliable figures.

If you read the design related articles, Sony clearly states that from the start the PSP was going to rely on spare batteries. The other points i remember were optical media and a 16:9 screen.

The screen is the most power-hungry part on the PSP, but theres not much to be done about other than the user choosing a lower brightness setting

I dont know if anyone else has said but i read that ridge racer makes it only have a battery life of around 90 min, and there is a region codes on the box. Could just be for films though.

No region lock out on games, I think, but yeah, games like Ridge Racers will kill the battery, but then, for a tenner get yourself another one, or another 5.

Region codes is for films, but we're the same as japan anyway..

90 minutes is bunk, that was on the residual charge laft in the battery from shipping amongst doing other stuff

ign have gotten well over 6 hours out of a full charge with playing several games, looking at a few pictures and playing mp3's, and as Vual said, if the batteries are only going to be £10, it's not really going to make any difference..

I think the batteries will be realistically ~£30 if they are $30-$40 in japan. We always get shafted but i'll still pick one up

that said i am still getting a DS when my quiz.tv money comes through
But Playstation has the mass appeal with the showcase of games.

BTW - how does this PSP work? What kind of format does it take for playing games??

Sony created a new disc for use in the PSP, not sure if there are plans to use it on any other products.

It holds 1.8GB on dual layers, works a lot like minidisc, as its always within the enclosure, except it doesnt have a latch, just a whole in the back for the laser to read the disc
