Warcraft 3 is my personal favourite and can be picked up for a mere tenner now on the bestsellers label, the expansion Frozen Throne is also available on the same label. I found this one quite easy to actually get into and if you fail a level you have the option to try again on an easier setting to get past it.

I loved Dungeon Keeper 2, one of my favourites to this day when it comes to RTS. However if you do get hold of it make sure it is fully patched to latest build up to be able to run on Windows XP without any probs.

Warhammer Dawn of War and Winter Assault addon is equally fantastic for a futuristic type RTS.

I have to admit I have a soft spot for Middle Earth so Battle for Middle Earth 2 was right up my street. Pretty easy to get into but I did find some of the missions to be quite tough. Also the game is buggy as hell and needs patching up to get it running right before you consider playing it.

A bit of a classic to finish off with is Shogun Total War (never played the expansion). Its pretty easy going and you don't actually have to fight all of the battles yourself if youre numbers are good enough. However the battles are very interesting if you have huge armies on each side, you can be going for a good while. Medieval Total War is just as good but I had probs getting it to run properly under XP. It just wouldn't save my settings at all so looked quite poor in the default low resolution.

I found the beta a few days ago but when I get to the bit where you have to type in the text in the picture into the box, it says Invalid Code. Tryed giving myself firect access to the internet, turned my firewall off, put security settings to low in both IE and FF but still no luck

I'd greatly appreciate it if one of you guys could PM me a code.

I love TA, still play it now actually

I cant wait for SC, looks like it is going to be something else in terms of the size of the game, it'll be well worth the cash im sure

myth series, total annihilation, warcraft 2 or starcraft imo.

the myth games had limited units so you had to make do with what you had to acheive what you had to in each map. realistic

TA was good, BIG BERTHAS ruled!

I love setting up 10 of them and wiping out the map

Another vote for TA. Spent many hours playing it over a LAN whilst at uni, mainly because you only needed the one disc for 3 players to play (a system I haven't seen before or since. 1 disc allowed 3 players, 2 discs for 4-7 and 3 discs for upto 10 players). I liked the numerous ways to to win (land, air, sea, nukes, cunningly building Big Bertha's-outside-their-base-without-them-realising-it). However, the unit limit sometimes lead to a stalemate as too much was put into defense and neither of us could break through. Looking forward to SC...

I was always a defensive player in TA, build a base that cannot be easily taken down and then transport a couple adv. constructors to a sly part of the map and build a big bertha outpost (turned off) and then start on a 2nd big bertha outpost on the other side of the map... when nearing completion turn on the 1st one and soon as the 2nd one is finished turn on the 2nd

I'd forgotten about syndicate. Used to play it a lot on the amiga and loved it.
I do know everything, just not all at once. It's a virtual memory problem.
